A Spanish teacher in Michigan has been charged for allegedly stealing from the school's homecoming dance and using that money at the casino.According to Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith, Lydia Johnson, 29, is charged with one count of embezzlement from a non-profit organization which could get her 10 years in prison.Johnson was Macomb Dakota High School's student activity coordinator from July 1, 2016 until her recent removal and was responsible for all finds.School officials say she oversaw ticket sales for the school's homecoming dance last year, which should have taken in nearly ,000 based on attendance. She only deposited ,000 into the school's account.When they searched her classroom, they found several homecoming cash deposit envelopes torn open and empty. They also found several casino receipts next to the empty envelopes. Her bank records also show cash deposits in excess of her salary.She also oversaw ticket sales and receipts for a trip to Camp Tamarack for 60 parents and students. Prosecutors say she should have collected and deposited nearly ,000 but only deposited 0.Camp employees tried to collect but couldn't, so they called school officials.After checking MGM records, they found Johnson spent more than ,000 in 2016 playing penny slots. She is expected to be arraigned on the charges Thursday. 1373

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- As firefighters work towards 100% containment in the Valley Fire, business owners are cleaning up the damage left behind by the flames. Alpine Dog Ranch is a vacation ranch for dogs to say while their owners are away. When the Valley Fire started, the ranch's owner, Thomas MacKinnon, was taking care of nine dogs, including his own. He quickly rushed to get them all into a van and tried to get out, but MacKinnon says they were trapped by flames. He and several neighbors took refuge in an open field until the flames passed. Firefighters and a 747 Supertanker saved all of the structures. No one was hurt. The fire did burn a lot of the greenery on the ranch and now MacKinnon is cleaning up; repairing fencing, the sprinkler system and covering burned patches with woodchips. MacKinnon says the fire was an added challenge on top of a difficult year. Like many businesses, the Alpine Dog Ranch has been struggling. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) — Kevin Coleman feels a range of emotions when he steps foot onto the land in Alpine he used to call home. He and his wife Monica lost two houses on the property during the July 2018 West Fire. "Disappointing, heartache, anxiety, stress, how do you rebuild?" he says.The 22-acre parcel in Alpine has the remnants of the two houses, while a third home on the property is rented out. Meanwhile, the Colemans are living with other family. "We've exhausted the little bit of insurance money that we got to do the debris removal, the cleanup," Kevin says. "We had to take care of trees and all the damage on the property." About 60 homes burned in the West Fire, a number of them still not rebuilt. Looking for any solution, Monica began calling contractors she'd worked with in the past. She found her answer sitting in a San Diego storage yard near Oak Park. That's where the city had been storing a historic home since a 2014 legal settlement with The Academy of Our Lady of Peace. As part of the settlement, the city was forced to remove two historic homes from Normal Heights to make way for the school to expand. It had one remaining in the yard, and agreed to sell it to the Colemans for . Monica mailed the city a signed contract with a bill Thursday. The only catch: The family must keep the home's historic character. "I was very shocked, and bawled my eyes out when they said, we're going to sell you this house for a dollar," Monica said. The next steps, however, are costly. Kevin says a contractor quoted the family ,000 to move the home to their land in Alpine. It will also cost about ,000 in labor to make the home habitable.
