A former student and three current students have been arrested and charged for their involvement in a prank that sent a student riding a dirt bike down a hallway at GlenOak High School in Canton, Ohio.According to officials at the Stark County Jail, all four were arrested for taking part in the prank that allowed a student to zoom through the hall on a dirt bike. The prank sent the school into a lockdown.The school said the incident has raised security concerns. One person involved, Eloy Lopes, 18, isn't a student at the school anymore."Our staff at GlenOak acted swiftly in addressing the immediate safety concerns as a result of the prank," a school representative school said in an email.Lopes was criminally charged with inducing panic with a reckless disregard for others, according to the sheriff. The sheriff's report said he was charged with criminal trespassing because he is not a current student at GlenOak. According to authorities, he held a door open for the dirt bike rider. The three students involved, a 17-year-old male and two 18-year-old males, were also arrested and charged with inducing panic with a reckless disregard for others for their involvement in the prank, according to authorities.The school has not addressed the status of the three current students, nor has it said whether or not security policies will change moving forward. 1515

A huge, swirling pile of trash in the Pacific Ocean is growing faster than expected and is now three times the size of France.According to a three-year study published in Scientific Reports Friday, the mass known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is about 1.6 million square kilometers in size -- up to 16 times bigger than previous estimates.Ghost nets, or discarded fishing nets, make up almost half the 80,000 metric tons of garbage floating at sea, and researchers believe that around 20% of the total volume of trash is debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami.The study -- conducted by an international team of scientists with The Ocean Cleanup Foundation, six universities and an aerial sensor company -- utilized two aircraft surveys and 30 vessels to cross the debris field.Along with nets to survey and collect trash, researchers used two six-meter-wide devices to measure medium to large-sized objects. An aircraft was also fitted with advanced sensors to collect 3D scans of the ocean garbage. They ended up collecting a total of 1.2 million plastic samples and scanned more than 300 square kilometers of ocean surface.The bulk of the pile is made up of larger objects while only 8% of the mass is microplastics, or pieces smaller than 5 millimeters in size."We were surprised by the amount of large plastic objects we encountered," Chief Scientist Julia Reisser said in a statement. "We used to think most of the debris consists of small fragments, but this new analysis shines a new light on the scope of the debris.  1542

A Japanese pilot found to be more than nine times over the legal alcohol limit before a scheduled flight from London Heathrow in October has been sentenced to 10 months in prison, police said Thursday.Katsutoshi Jitsukawa, 42, an employee of flag carrier Japan Airlines, was scheduled to fly from Heathrow to Tokyo on October 28 at 6:50 p.m. local time, but failed a breath test shortly before takeoff.The test showed Jitsukawa had 189 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his body. The legal limit for pilots is 20 mg, while drivers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are allowed as much as 80 mg.Alarm was raised after a driver of a crew bus smelled alcohol and called the police, who conducted the test, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK.Jitsukawa said he had drunk two bottles of wine and a pitcher of beer the night before the flight, NHK reported.He was remanded in custody and later pleaded guilty to the charge of performing an aviation function when his ability was impaired through alcohol. A family is hoping to locate their fallen soldier's American flag after it was stolen from their truck.Shawn Marceau told FOX 12 his truck was broken into in Yakima, Washington and inside was an American flag that belonged to his son, Joe, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.He said the signatures of his son and two other fallen soldiers are displayed on the flag."The significance to anybody is really nothing, but to us, it is so personal because it's their last signatures in their lives,” said Marceau. “And I think that is what makes it so important to us. A burly kangaroo whose buff physique shot him to internet fame has died at the age of 12."We have lost our beautiful boy, Roger," Chris Barnes, owner of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Australia, announced on Saturday on Facebook.Roger, who was 6 foot 7 inches and weighed nearly 200 pounds in his prime, was rescued by Barnes as a joey after his mother was killed on a highway.In a video tribute to the marsupial, Barnes said he was inspired to set up the 188-acre sanctuary in Alice Springs to house the famous kangaroo and his growing harem of wives."I built it so they had a place to live," he said. Roger was the sanctuary's alpha male for many years, Barnes added. "He grew up to be a kangaroo that people from all over the world have grown to love as much as we love him too."Roger's death led to an outpouring of grief on social media.
