BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday met with visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, hailing fresh development of bilateral relationship and vowing closer collaboration. "Russia is one of the top agenda on China's diplomacy as we pay much attention to relations with Russia," Hu told Putin in their half an hour meeting in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.     Hu said this year was significant for China-Russia relations as both countries celebrated their 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.     Russia was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with China, days after the People's Republic of China was founded on Oct. 1, 1949. Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) meets with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 14, 2009.    As an important milestone in deepening relations, both countries established strategic partnership of coordination in 1996.     Hu said this partnership had reaped substantive benefits to both peoples and worked for the world peace, stability and prosperity.     He underscored the mutual support both countries offered to each other on issues concerning their core interest and close coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs.     "China would like to work more closely with Russia to enhance political trust and strategic coordination," Hu said.     Chinese President particularly called for both countries to boost cooperation in energy, high-tech and culture.     "Let's work together to take strategic partnership of coordination to a higher level," Hu said.     Putin said his China visit was very successful, marking "an important step forward" in bilateral cooperation.     He said close exchanges between leaders of both nations contributed a lot to bilateral relations, which witnessed rapid progress in trade, energy and culture.     Putin said the "Year of Russian Language" went on well in China and looked forward to the "Year of Chinese language" in Russia next year.     During the "Year of Russian Language" in China, the two nations held more than 200 cultural exchange activities in about 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China.     Putin said he was satisfied with Russia's ties with China and would like to advance the relations.     On Tuesday, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao hosted a red-carpet welcome ceremony for Putin, who is on his first official visit to China since taking office in May 2008. They held closed-door talks and witnessed the signing of 12 agreements, including the agreements on natural gas and oil.

BRUSSELS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met Thursday with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on bilateral ties, vowing to enhance cooperation between the two sides.     Xi, who congratulated Barroso for his reelection, said China appreciated his efforts in the past five years on boosting development of the comprehensive and strategic partnership between China and the European Union. China believes, too, that the bilateral ties would advance further in a healthy and stable way within the new term of Barroso, Xi said.     Xi said China and the EU, who have formed a pattern of comprehensive, wide-range and multilevel cooperation, have become two important forces to help shape the future international structure into a multipolar world.     Xi put forward a three-point proposal to further strengthen bilateral relations between China and the EU. The Sino-EU relations will remove various obstacles and make progress as long as both sides stick to the principle of "mutual respect and mutual trust, consultation on an equal footing, and seeking common ground while shelving differences," Xi said. It will also be important to bear in mind the overall interests of bilateral relations and respect each other's major concerns, Xi said.     China is ready to work with the EU to build Sino-EU relations into a model of peaceful coexistence and friendly exchanges between countries that transcend civilizations, social systems and development models, Xi said.     Barroso offered congratulations on the success of China's impressive National Day celebrations on October 1, speaking highly of the great achievements of China in the last 60 years.     Sino-EU relations have seen remarkable achievements, he said, adding that the past five years have witnessed frequent top-level exchanges, fruitful personnel and cultural exchanges, and rapid development of economic and trade cooperation.     China and the EU have seen increasing common ground on global issues, including the international financial crisis and climate change, and both sides oppose protectionism and champion a just international order, Barroso said.     In the next five years, the EU will continue developing and promoting the EU and China's comprehensive and strategic partnership and strive to handle disagreements in a mature and responsible spirit so as to further develop bilateral ties, he said.     Barroso also wished the forthcoming Europalia Chinese Art Festival a great success.     Xi arrived here Wednesday for an official visit to Belgium, the first leg of his five-nation European tour. XI'AN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Boris Tadic on Saturday arrived in the ancient capital Xi'an in northwest China, continuing his week-long visit to the country.     Tadic visited some well-known historic sites in the city, including Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum and the Terra-cotta Warriors.     The president hailed "Terra-cotta Warriors" as unique, saying those warriors demonstrated Chinese' delicate craftsmanship dating back more than 2000 years.     "They are so well-preserved, thus Serbia should work with China on the protection of cultural relics," Tadic said. Serbian President Boris Tadic visits the Museum of Terracotta Horses and Armored Warriors of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynastry in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, Aug. 22, 2009    Zhao Zhengyong, deputy governor of Shaanxi Province, of which Xi'an is the capital, met with Tadic on Saturday.     Tadic said his country will cooperate with Shaanxi as the province boasts abundant resources in petroleum, coal and culture.     Tadic made the week-long visit as a guest of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao. BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to hold a National Day military and mass parade as well as an evening gala on Tian'anmen Square Thursday to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).     Following will be highlights of the once-in-a-decade grand celebrations:     -- Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao, will be on Tian'anmen Rostrum to observe the parade.     -- President Hu is to review line-ups of the tri-service People's Liberation Army (PLA), standing in an open-top home-made Red Flag limousine.     -- National flag raising ceremony will be held on Tian'anmen Square.     -- Military parade is expected to involve more than 8,000 people, and a total of 52 types of new weapon systems, including the PLA's missiles, airborne early warning and control aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and other sophisticated military hardware, will be shown.     -- Military paraders will march goose-step through the square in new-style uniforms initiated in 2007.     -- Women militia soldiers in purple skirts will march goose-step through Tian'anmen Square, holding submachine guns. The formation will be led by two models who used to be good at cat walking.     -- Snow Leopard armed police unit, which took charge of security of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will be shown at the National Day parade.     -- Sixteen female fighter pilots, the country's first batch, are expected to make a debut in a fly-past at the parade.     -- Civilian formations will march through Tian'anmen Square, showcasing panoramic achievements China has made over the past sixdecades. The mass parade will feature dozens of floats themed with, for instance, the Beijing Olympics and the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in southwestern Sichuan last year.     -- Improved relations between the mainland and Taiwan will be showcased at the parade.     -- China's agriculture scientist, Yuan Longping, will wave his iconic invention of "super hybrid rice" atop of an agriculture-themed float, escorted by farmers.     -- China's first astronaut Yang Liwei and first space walker Zhai Zhigang will show up on a float along with four other colleagues that have entered the space aboard Shenzhou series of spaceships since 2003.     -- Hurdler Liu Xiang and diving diva Guo Jingjing will stand ona float to show the achievements in sports. Chinese athletes reaped 51 gold medals in the Beijing Olympics, ranking the first in the gold medal list.     -- About 60,000 people will dance to the song "I Love China" at the grandiose National Day evening gala, showcasing the country's ethnic harmony and development.     -- Fireworks, designed by renowned Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang who masterminded the firework display at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, will dazzle the night of the National Day.     -- About 4,000 performers will form a "light cubic" formation in the center of Tian'anmen Square at the gala. They will hold bouquets and electric devices to form different light patterns to the tunes of music.

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao on Thursday morning reviewed Chinese troops in central Beijing as the country celebrated the 60th National Day.     Standing in a black open-roof limousine on Chang'an Avenue, Hu was greeted by Fang Fenghui, commander-in-chief of the full-dress military parade. Fang reported: "Comrade chairman, assembly of the reviewing troops is completed, please review!"     Amid army songs played by a 1,300-member brass band, the home-made Red Flag limo drove eastward along Chang'an avenue, where Hu inspected 44 ground square formations composed of the three services of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), armed police, army reserves, and militia.     His car was followed by the limo of Fang Fenghui and an alternate one.     Wearing a high-collared Mao suit, Hu repeated salutes through a microphone: "Greetings, comrades!" and "Comrades, you are working hard!" The soldiers loudly replied: "Greetings, leader!" and "We serve the people!"     Twelve echelons of more than 150 warplanes are expected to fly over Tian'anmen Square during a military parade.
