CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – At a virtual hearing on Tuesday, a San Diego judge ordered that the name could be revealed of the teenager who’s accused of killing a woman on a Carlsbad trail. Images of his face, however, were ordered to remain private.17-year-old Haloa Beaudet's defense counsel denies the allegations.He is suspected of stabbing Lisa Thorborg on Hosp Grove trail in November. “His DNA was found on the victim. We have him running on surveillance camera [video] away from the murder scene in a time that's consistent with the time of death,” said a detective.The prosecution showed a surveillance camera image of him running barefoot on the street, away from the trail at 11:25 a.m. on the day that Thorborg died. “We feel that she died at about 11:10 a.m. so that's about 15 minutes after she was murdered,” said the detective.Other surveillance camera images that were shown in the hearing captured the teen on the same trail in the days after the murder.Detectives said that a few days later, he was arrested for prowling on the trail. Once taken into custody, a sample of his DNA was taken. “Ultimately, they found that DNA from [Haloa’s swabs] matched the male DNA on Ms. Thorborg's shorts,” said a detective.Detectives also said that a pair of flip flops that they believe belong to the teen were discovered near Thorborg. His defense attorney argued that Thorborg may have discovered and picked up those flip flops, which was how she got his DNA on her.The teen's attorney said that there's no motive for a murder. His grandmother told the judge that he has no history of violence.The judge decided that the case can move forward.Beaudet’s next hearing is scheduled for January 25th.The teen is ordered to remain in-custody for the time being. 1770
CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A new law, passed unanimously by the Carlsbad City Council, will allow any place with a license to serve food and alcohol to also host live entertainment.Previously, only places that served primarily food were allowed to have live music or shows."What we’re looking at is more of the solo artist, the pianist, more of the acoustic music that we’re seeing a trend in the rise all over," says City Village Manager Claudia Huerta.The city hadn't updated its live entertainment rules since 2017. Huerta says business owners had requested the change to keep pace with other similar coastal cities. Now, they can apply for a permit to have live entertainment, including music, DJs or other performers like hypnotists and comedians."The village is a special place," says Zac Markham, who owns Humble Olive Oils on State Street. "I really think this will raise bar of the village and make it a place to be for Carlsbad and all of our county."Not everyone is excited about the change. Some neighbors worry that more music will lead to more people and more problems, especially late at night."The whole purpose of that is to get more business, right? I understand, that’s a valid business reason," says Carlsbad Barrio resident Simon Angel. "But is it appropriate for the communities that are going to be impacted by it? We already have people walking through at night. Sometimes they stop and relieve themselves or they get sick in people's front yards."Huerta says the city is working to make sure that doesn't happen. Every application for an entertainment permit will be reviewed by the police. And the City Council will revisit the program after 6 months to make sure it hasn't created any problems.The new ordinance goes into effect in April. CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) — A brush fire on Camp Pendleton sent heavy smoke into the air above Oceanside Tuesday.Residents reported seeing heavy smoke in the North County from the base. Camp Pendleton officials say the fire closed Stewart Mesa Rd., between Donald Cook and the 41 Area, at about 1:30 p.m.The blaze reached 18 acres before fire crews stopped its forward progress just before 2 p.m. No personnel or structures were threatened, according to the base.The brush fire ignited as the region endures elevated fire danger, with gusty offshore winds in the mountains and foothills and humidity hovering between 15 and 25 percent. 647

(KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than million worth of narcotics in a single vehicle stop this week.CBP says officers stopped a 55-year-old driver at about 4 a.m. at the Calexico Port of Entry and referred the driver to a secondary inspection, where an x-ray imaging system identified anomalies in the vehicle.A search of the vehicle turned up 20 packages of fentanyl weighing 48 pounds, and 121 packages of methamphetamine weighing 517 pounds hidden in the floor, gas tank, seats, and spare tire.The driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security officials. 628

Now the company will test its strength at the store.CEO Philip Krim said Casper will open 200 stores across the country in the next three years.
