"Lemonade stand! Snack bar!" they shout loudly. At the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive in Hampton, Virginia you'll find a group of determined kids."We are raising money for single mothers that are struggling. They have to do so much on their own," said 11-year-old Cartier Carey.Cartier is the leader of the "Carti Pack" and CEO of his lemonade stand, one unlike any other."We sell lemonade, chips, candy - all types of stuff that people want, and it's not expensive," he said.Each dollar spent towards a cup of the summertime drink and goodies on the side goes towards buying diapers for local families in need."The diapers are for mothers or anyone that has babies," Cartier said.It's an unusual business model, but one that's working."There's a shortage of Pampers and wipes in the stores because of the pandemic, so this couldn't have come at a better time," said Anthony Carey, Cartier's dad.A rising sixth-grader like Cartier and his friends could be out playing sports or riding bikes, but instead, they're helping single mothers in the community."There are a lot of grown-ups out there not doing what we're doing," Cartier said."As a parent, it makes me feel spectacular," Anthony said.This lemonade stand isn't a first for Cartier. He started the non-profit Kids 4 Change 757 about a year ago."Not only are they helping older adults, but [they're also] helping children see they can make a change inside of their community," Anthony said.So far this week, Cartier and his friends have raised ,200, most of which is going to buy the diapers."I'm shocked," Cartier said.Cartier and his friends will be out in Hampton at the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive through Friday.WTKR's Chelsea Donovan first reported this story. 1763

(CNN) -- Boxer Patrick Day died Wednesday, four days after he was knocked out during his bout with Charles Conwell on Saturday night in Chicago.Day, 27, succumbed to a traumatic brain injury he suffered that night, according to a statement from his promoter, Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment."He was surrounded by his family, close friends and members of his boxing team, including his mentor, friend and trainer Joe Higgins," DiBella said in a statement. "On behalf of Patrick's family, team, and those closest to him, we are grateful for the prayers, expressions of support and outpouring of love for Pat that have been so obvious since his injury."In a Twitter post addressed to Day on Tuesday, Conwell wrote he "never meant this to happen to you.""All I wanted to do was win. If I could take it all back, I would," Conwell wrote. "No one deserves this to happen to them. I replay the fight over and over in my head thinking what if this never happened and why did it happen to you."After Conwell, a 2016 Olympic boxer, knocked Day out in the 10th round, Day appeared to be down for several minutes as a medical team rushed in to assess his injuries. Eventually he was taken out of the ring on a stretcher, and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.DiBella said that Day didn't need to box as he came from a good family, was educated and could have made a living in some other way."He chose to box, knowing the inherent risks that every fighter faces when he or she walks into a boxing ring," DiBella said. "Boxing is what Pat loved to do. It's how he inspired people and it was something that made him feel alive."Conwell was in control of the fight in Wintrust Arena from the beginning, according to ESPN.Before he became a professional fighter, Day was a highly decorated amateur. He won two Nationals titles, the New York Golden Gloves tournament and was an Olympic Team alternate, all in 2012.He turned pro in 2013 and captured the WBC Continental Americas championship in 2017 and the IBF Intercontinental championship in 2019. In June 2019, he was rated in the top 10 by both the WBC and IBF. San Diego (KGTV) There’s a battle over prime real estate in Hillcrest. There were plans to use the Third Avenue location for luxury housing, but some county leaders are hoping to use the space as a way to serve the homeless dealing with mental health challenges. Over a decade ago, the location once served as a center for adolescents. The county had plans to use the 7-acre lot for luxury condos. “I don’t believe that the public policy changes we face as a region is a shortage of luxury condos,” says County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “I believe the public policy challenge we face as a region is an investment in behavioral health services.”The vacant space on Third Avenue sits less than a mile from Scripps Mercy Hospital and UCSD Medical Center, Hillcrest. “We have 50 to 100 patients in our emergency rooms every day that need some form of mental health services,” says Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health. The facility would offer services like psychiatric care and substance abuse. “A lot of folks go to the emergency room, get the most expensive care, get stabilized, and they have nowhere to go,” said Fletcher.
