BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisory body on Thursday urged its members to make more proposals on how the Communist Party and government can maintain the country's economic growth.     The statement was made at a meeting attended by the chairman and vice chairpersons of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). BEICHUAN, Sichuan, May 10 (Xinhua) -- The quake-devastated Beichuan county seat in southwest China's Sichuan Province reopened Sunday to residents to mourn the dead ahead of the first anniversary of the disaster.     Some 21,000 people, or two-thirds of the county seat's population, were dead or missing in the 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12 last year, making the county the worst hit in the quake.     The county will be open for four days till Wednesday.     Mourners brought flowers, incense and candles and set off firecrackers in the ruins of former bus stations, county government buildings and homes. The police distributed bottled water to the crowd for free. MOSCOW, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator, met with Russian Duma Chairman Boris Gryzlov on Thursday. Both leaders stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation and the unique role it serves bilateral relations.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress(NPC), hailed the bilateral parliamentary cooperation at various levels in recent years. Since arriving in Moscow on Wednesday, the legislator has met with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Sergei Mironov, chairman of the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament, known as the Federation Council.

BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland will send a sports delegation to participate in the 2009 World Games to be held in Kaohsiung, a southern coastal city of Taiwan.     Liu Peng, chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), said athletes from nine associations of the COC will compete in the games.     He made the promise during his meeting with Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu in Beijing Friday.     The mainland will also send an observation delegation to the games, Liu said, adding that sports is a medium and bridge which connects people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.     Chen Chu said her delegation hoped to learn from the successful experience of the Beijing Olympic Games.     She led a promotion team for the 2009 World Games to the mainland on Thursday. The games will be held from July 16 to 26.
