NEW YORK – A New York City police officer was among the several people arrested in connection to a drug trafficking bust, officials announced Monday.NYPD officer Amaury Abreu and two other men, Julia Bautista and Gustavo Valerio, are accused of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine.The three men were allegedly members of a multinational drug trafficking organization with distributors in the New York area and the Dominican Republic between January 2016 and October 2020.Bautista, 35, and Valerio, 38, were high-ranking members of the organization based in New York and were responsible for distributing and overseeing the distribution of cocaine once it was in New York, according to the federal complaint.Abreu, 34, allegedly used his position as a police officer and provided information about law enforcement procedures, performing warrant checks on DTO members, on at least one instance, distributed cocaine for the group.Officials said Abreu pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a million bond with home detention as a condition of the bond.Two other men face changes in connection to the bust. Cesar Diaz-Bautista, 43, faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, while Junior Ortiz, 29, faces charges of cocaine importation conspiracy.Ortiz was released on a 0,000 bond and Diaz-Bautista will be released on a 0,000 bond, officials said.The other two defendants had not yet been arraigned Monday.Since 2016, law enforcement agents have seized more than 350 kilograms of cocaine belonging to the DTO.“This criminal network allegedly trafficked more than 350 kilos of cocaine and was assisted by an NYPD officer, who used his knowledge and access to help them stay one step ahead of the law,” stated District Attorney Madeline Singas.“There is no place for corruption in the NYPD and it will always be prosecuted fully. NEW YORK, N.Y. – Legendary television host Regis Philbin has died at the age of 88, People Magazine and ABC News report.According to a family statement obtained by People and ABC, Philbin passed away from natural causes Friday night, one month shy of his 89th birthday.The statement goes on to say that Philbin’s loved ones are forever grateful for the time they got to spend with him, his warmth, his sense of humor and his ability to make every day into something worth talking about.“We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss," the statement ends.For years, Philbin hosted “Live! No Crime Stoppers reward will be given to the woman who alerted police of the Waffle House shooter's whereabouts after he killed multiple people in Antioch. That's because the woman did not submit a tip through Crime Stoppers, instead, calling 911 with the suspect's location. "I get goosebumps talking about it," Lydia French said as she recalled the day that the suspect was caught. French spotted the man coming out of the woods near her worksite, next to where the suspect lived, when she called police. She then spotted the suspect a second time and called 911 again. "When he came out of the woods the second time and I got a good look at him, oh, I knew. I knew for sure. I called 911 back the second time and said, 'Your guy is right here. It's him,'" French said.She said police responded immediately."It was crazy. I've never seen so many vehicles just storm an area like they did," she said. While French called in the tip to 911, she was surprised that she wasn't given a reward from Crime Stoppers, and many others were confused about the situation as well."Unfortunately, we cannot pay the reward on this as Crime Stoppers was contacted after they advised the police department," an email from Crime Stoppers read.Crime Stoppers is a separate entity from the police department. "I actually thought they were hand-in-hand," French said. According to Liz Parrott, the chair of Nashville Crime Stoppers, to get a reward from Crime Stoppers, tipsters have to call the tip line, (615) 74-CRIME, or submit the tip through their mobile app. In the case of the Waffle House manhunt, French called 911. She never called Crime Stoppers, not until a month later to inquire about the reward. Crime Stoppers is designed to get tips in cold cases or in cases where someone with information wants to remain anonymous, and it generally isn't used in active crimes like the Waffle House manhunt."Anytime there's an active crime in progress, 911 is always best," Parrot said. While French said it isn't about the money, she wanted to get her story out so the public would know in the future: If you want the Crime Stoppers reward, you need to reach out to Crime Stoppers before the police. "I'm glad I could do what I could do to make the community and everybody feel safer, I just hope the families get justice," French said.French was given a ,000 reward from the TBI for her assistance in the case.  2478

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Peloton has issued a recall for some of its bike pedals due to a laceration hazard.Thursday, that home fitness company said about 54,000 of its PR70P clip-in pedals are being recalled. They’re the first-generation pedals fitted on Peloton bikes sold between July 2013 and May 2016.The company has received at least 120 reports of pedals breaking, including 16 reports of leg injuries, five of which required medical care, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.The Peloton logo and the word "PELOTON" are molded into the pedal body. An orange Peloton symbol and white lettering spelling "PELOTON" are also printed on the top of the cleat binding. They were fitted on bikes that sold for about ,000.Peloton says anyone with these pedals should stop using them immediately and that it’s notifying all affected consumers directly on how to receive free replacement pedals, along with instructions for self-installation.Peloton says its pedals are warranted for one year and all remaining PR70P clip-in pedals in service are out of warranty. NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The teacher whose actions stopped a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School om Friday said his actions were, in his mind, "the only acceptable actions."Science teacher Jason Seaman didn't say much Monday morning in his first press conference since the shooting on Friday. But what he did say only reinforced what many already know about Seaman: It's not about him. He brushed off credit for stopping the shooter, instead praising other teachers, students and the school resource officer at the school. "I want to make it clear that my actions on that day, in my mind, were the only acceptable actions I could've done given the circumstances," Seaman said. "I deeply care for my students and their well-being. That is why I did what I did that day."Police say Seaman, 29, tackled a student who started firing in his classroom Friday morning. He was shot three times during the incident, but released from the hospital Saturday. Ella Whistler, a student at the school, was shot Friday. Her family says she's doing well at Riley Hospital for Children."I can't say enough how proud of Ella I am and how we all should be," Seaman said. "Her courage and strength is nothing short of remarkable and we should continue to keep her in our minds as she continues to recover."After the press conference, Seaman honored at an Indiana Sectional Championship baseball game between Noblesville High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School. Noblesville Schools is selling T-shirts to raise money for Seaman and Whistler.
