Tropical Storm Beta is gaining strength off the coast of southern Texas, as Subtropical Storm Alpha makes landfall in Portugal Friday afternoon; both are making history because of their names and timing.This is only the second time in recent history more than 21 significant storms in the Atlantic have been named in a year. (KGTV) - The Santee School District recently sent robocalls to parents with children at Cajon Park Elementary, alerting them to a possible child luring incident.A mother from the school detailed an incident on her Facebook page, reporting her 11-year-old son was approached by a couple at Woodglen Vista Park asking him to help catch their dogs.The woman then asked the boy to go to the dog park with them. The boy ran home and told his mother.The woman was described as in her 40s with blonde hair. The man is described as 60 years old with gray hair.The San Diego Sheriff's Department has not received any reports on the mother's post.Cajon Park Elementary officials told 10News they plan to follow up with the Sheriff's Department Wednesday morning. 840

UNIVERSITY CITY (KGTV) -- Several University City residents were rescued from their apartment balconies early Monday morning after their building became flooded in up to four feet of water from a busted fire hydrant.The incident first started around 1:30 a.m. when a motorist in an SUV crashed into a fire hydrant in the 9000 block of Genesee Avenue, in front of the Canyon Park Apartments across from La Jolla Country Day School.The sheared fire hydrant created a geyser that flooded the adjacent apartment building. Several lower level units became submerged in up to four feet of water. Some residents were forced out onto their balconies as waterfalls cascaded through their apartments and into the canyon below.Firefighters were able to rescue those trapped on their balconies without further incident. It took crews about a half hour to turn off the water.The American Red Cross was called in to help 22 adults, six dogs and a cat arrange for another place to stay.The driver told officers he fell asleep before crashing into the fire hydrant, San Diego Police officer Tony Martinez said. 1107

Two dogs are safe after running onto a Phoenix freeway and disrupting traffic on Wednesday. Video from Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix showed two dogs running onto Interstate 17 near Deer Valley Road. The Arizona Department of Public Safety tried to catch the dogs, but they refused to stop. DPS stopped traffic for a brief time while troopers and Phoenix firefighters attempted to stop the dogs. Officials were able to grab one dog on I-17, but the other dog ran from DPS and away from the freeway into an RV park.Residents at the RV park were able to capture the second dog after almost an hour of running free. KNXV caught up with the dog and the owner: DOG CHASE: DPS following dogs on I-17/Deer Valley in Phoenix. USA Gymnastics CEO Kerry Perry apologized Wednesday for the "horrific acts" of Larry Nassar at a congressional hearing examining the Olympic community's role in sex abuse scandals."I want to apologize to all who were harmed by the horrific acts of Larry Nassar," Perry said.She said she was "appalled and sickened by the despicable crimes" of Nassar and said USA Gymnastics has taken a new course over the last five months to protect athletes.Perry was appointed to take over USA Gymnastics late last year. She replaced Steve Penny, who resigned in March 2017 amid backlash over the organization's handling of sexual abuse claims, including against Nassar.Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics doctor and Michigan State University team physician, admitted in a Michigan court that he had used his influence and position as a trusted medical professional to sexually abuse young girls and women over two decades.Several of the hundreds of women abused by Nassar, including gold medal gymnast Aly Raisman, have said USA Gymnastics is responsible for not doing more to stop the years of abuse.
