He is helping to make face masks to send to health care workers. “It is personal,” Williams said. “I would want to make sure my wife is protected when she was trying to help save others’ lives. I believe most people in the world would feel the same way as our health care workers.Williams, who works for Craft Bot, makes the headbands for the masks. Others help put it together. The project is coordinated through the Scripps Ranch Civic Association. RELATED: Ways you can help as states scramble for ventilators, other supplies“I've got seven printers, so I can print a lot. Others have one because they're a consumer that owns a 3D printer and they can print three or four a day. There's several people out there chipping in little by little,” Williams said.Ten-year-old Asher Botts is one of those people helping. He is also using his 3D printer to make headbands. He’s made five so far, with each one taking several hours to print. When asked why he is getting involved, he said he was “helping our country.”RELATED: California recruiting retired doctors, med students for expected COVID-19 surgeThis past weekend, organizers of the project delivered 200 of these masks, mostly to local hospitals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Dominic Pizarro lost his mom and his little sister on Thursday, after a wrong-way driver drove into their SUV on Interstate 805. Pizarro spoke with 10News as he and his grandfather drove back to San Diego to support Dominic's older brother - who was the first to hear the tragic news. Trevor Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 McLaren?sports car that collided with the SUV, killing himself, and 43-year-old Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter, Aryana. "Both of them were the most caring...people full of life, you've ever met in the world," Pizarro said. The way his mother and sister died has dominated local news outlets since it happened.Heitmann was traveling at high speeds Thursday, heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Dr. before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Rd. Pizarro said his family was as close as can be - the siblings were all musicians. "(Aryana) was just the most unique little girl in the whole wide world," he said. "She was your average girly girl at times, and at times she was this feisty little 12-year-old who was just so smart, so mature for her age."The siblings were raised by their mom and grandfather. Their mom Aileen was a therapist devoted to helping others.  "Everything (my mom and grandpa) had went to us," Pizarro said. "Every single dollar, every single cent was put into me and my brother and sister."Pizarro said the family will never forget their caring mother and feisty sister, as he also recalled the last conversation he had with Aryana. "She was showing me all these unicorn things she got, unicorn pencils, unicorn notebooks," he said. "She was showing me everything that she was going to wear or take to school because she was so proud of everything that mom had gotten her for school."Aryana was set to start seventh grade at the School of Creative and Performing Arts on Monday.Pizarro set up a GoFundMe page to support the family during this tough time, but also asked those aware of the story for their prayers.  2175

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Democratic presidential candidates took direct aim President Trump and the nation's gun laws at the Unidos US political conference in San Diego Monday. “We don't need thoughts and prayers out of Washington. What we need is strength and some resolve that we haven't seen yet,” said former Vice President Joe Biden. In an interview, candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders renewed calls for an assault weapons ban but acknowledged uwpards of 10 million are already in civilian hands. “That is more than the United States military has,” Sanders said. "We have to immediately ban the sale and distribution; I think we ought to take a hard look about licensing these weapons for the people who own them."Sanders added a buyback program would also be an option.Sen. Amy Klobuchar said the Democrats are dealing with a powerful gun lobby."I come from a hunting state, I come from a law enforcement background, but when I got to the Senate I couldn't believe the power of the NRA and the power of the other groups that have tried to stop that in the track,” she said. Candidates also criticized President Trump for his anti-immigration rhetoric, saying it has lead to an increase in white nationalism across the U.S.“We are all equal and should be treated that way. We are the ones who are making those words real and making those words live,” Sen. Kamala Harris said. Unidos US also released a scientific poll of 1,800 Latino likely voters. About 78 percent of them said their biggest concern was how President Trump and his allies treat immigrants, and worry it will get worse. 1587

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family and friends of a disabled Clairemont woman are making a plea for the arrest of a hit-and-run driver who left her with serious injuries.Last week, a beaming Delores Odom appeared at a surprise party for her 59th birthday. One of the attendees was her friend and neighbor Maritza Gates. "She was so happy that day. It breaks my heart to see her in the hospital now in so much pain," said Gates. On Saturday just before 6:30 p.m., Odom decided to take a walk to grab dinner. She was crossing westbound on Genesee Avenue in the south crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle that had been going westbound on Derrick Drive and made a left turn to southbound Genesee Avenue, according to police.Odom's daughter Brianna says her mother broke her back in two places. Odom has feeling in her toes, but still faces possible paralysis and requires complicated back surgery. Her recovery and rehabilitation is made more challenging because of a decades-old diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. "There's a special place for people like that. I don't understand how you could hurt someone and then leave them. My mom is one of the nicest people ever. You don't know someone's story when you leave them to die on the street," she said.Police say there is no description of the vehicle and are looking for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-580-8477.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help with expenses. 1462
