(KGTV) — More than 20,000 acres have been scorched in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties by the Apple Fire since Friday, prompting evacuation orders for thousands of residents.The fire had burned 26,450 acres and was 5% contained as of Monday at 7:48 a.m., according to Cal Fire.Officials say the blaze began as two separate fires on Friday in Cherry Valley, an unincorporated area near Beaumont in Riverside County, before exploding over the weekend and crossing into San Bernardino County.RELATED: Several San Diego County fire departments help fight growing Apple FireThe U.S. Forest Service says the majority of the area covering the northern and eastern edges of the fire is very steep and rugged, making it difficult for crews to access the area with vehicles. The agency added that a high pressure ridge on Sunday created hot and dry conditions, fueling the flames.Helicopters and fixed-wing air tankers were assisting ground crews and equipment in battling the fire.At least one home and two outbuildings have been destroyed by the fire and several more were threatened. (KGTV) -- The woman accused of hitting a pedestrian in Oceanside and continuing to drive after his body went through the windshield of her vehicle was found guilty Friday afternoon.A jury Friday found 31-year-old Esteysi “Stacy” Sanchez guilty of murder in the second degree, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit and run with death or permanent serious injury.Deputy District Attorney Robert Bruce told the jury that Sanchez displayed a conscious disregard for human life when she drove drunk and ran over 69-year-old Jack Ray Tenhulzen on a sidewalk on Mission Road near the state Route 76 bridge the morning of June 27, 2016.Tenhulzen’s body went through the windshield and into the passenger seat of her car.  The bottom of the victim's leg was severed in the accident but was recovered at the back of the car near the rear window.Tenhulzen was declared dead at the scene.Defense attorney Herb Weston argued that Sanchez was tired and fell asleep behind the wheel and rode up on the sidewalk, striking Tenhulzen. He said Sanchez "freaked out" when she saw the victim's body in her car and kept driving, finally stopping a block from her home.Sanchez was eventually arrested at her home, and she had shards of glass in her hair when taken into custody. Authorities said her blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit about two hours after the collision.Sanchez faces up to 15 years to life in prison. (KGTV) - Neighbors in San Marcos are sounding the alarm on a suspected prowler after his antics were caught on two different doorbell cameras.The first video from a homeowner in the Richland area of San Marcos shows a man cover his face while peering into a stranger’s home and whistle at the dog inside in an attempt to stop it from barking.The second video from the front door of Sam Ilaian’s house captures the man loitering in his driveway before walking up to take the ring camera.“He pulled it off the wall completely,” said Ilaian, “brackets and everything.”The Sheriff’s department has the video now and Ilaian says the neighborhood is a little more vigilant.As for his front door, “I think now I’ll install more cameras there,” said Ilaian.  763

(KGTV) - The Holy Fire flare up in the Cleveland National Forest has grown to 150 acres with 10 percent containment, though crews are said to be making "good progress."According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the goal at this point is to protect communication towers and infrastructure atop Santiago Peak. U.S. Forest Service officials said the fire broke out in the Santiago Peak area of the Cleveland National Forest at about 10 a.m.According to officials, "5 air tankers and 4 helicopters have been assigned. Ground resources will be utilized when it is safe to do so.” 591

A big winner in this year's election was the marijuana industry, as five states approved some form of legalization.Mississippi approved it for medicinal use. Arizona, Montana and New Jersey approved it for recreational use. South Dakota approved it for both and became the first state to approve both forms of marijuana in the same election.The Drug Policy Alliance says it never expected the support in some states, but hopes it sends a message to lawmakers in Washington D.C.“It doesn’t just stop at marijuana reform,” said Matt Sutton with the Drug Policy Alliance. “People are really seeing drugs as being something that shouldn’t be criminalized in the U.S. and they definitely took that with them to the ballot box.”Changes could happen on the federal level. Congress was supposed to vote on the MORE Act in September. The bill would decriminalize marijuana by removing it from the list of controlled substances and expunge many previous convictions.The Drug Policy Alliance says the bill is now expected to go to a vote by the end of the year and hopes the momentum at the state level translates to a victory at the federal level.“I am hoping that this wave of victories across the country will definitely send a message to Congress and really light a fire under them to pass the MORE Act,” said Sutton.It wasn't just marijuana that won on election night. Oregon voters overwhelmingly approved a proposal to decriminalize possession of all drugs.People caught possessing hard drugs would have the option to pay a 0 fine or attend an addiction recovery center.
