The Sarasota (Fla.) County School District confirmed they are looking into a racially offensive promposal that was posted to social media.A spokesperson for the district confirmed the Riverview High School senior posted a picture that they worry will be a disruptor to the school and student safety. The post made to Snapchat reads, "If I was Black I'd be picking cotton, but I'm white so I'm picking U 4 Prom?"The district said they have not concluded if the 18-year-old will be banned from prom as it's an ongoing investigation. Sarasota County Schools also said they sent a text alert to parents Monday morning about the situation and that they plan to have more information late Monday. The student, who Scripps station WFTS in Tampa is not identifying, also posted an apology to social media. The following message was sent to parents and students on Monday morning:  930

The U.S. government is investigating the Equifax breach.In an unusual move, the Federal Trade Commission confirmed on Thursday that it has opened a probe into the Equifax debacle, which may have compromised the personal information of as many as 143 million Americans."The FTC typically does not comment on ongoing investigations," Peter Kaplan, the FTC's acting director of public affairs, said in a statement. "However, in light of the intense public interest and the potential impact of this matter, I can confirm that FTC staff is investigating the Equifax data breach."A spokesperson for Equifax said the company is "actively engaging with and being responsive to regulators, federal agencies and legislators and expect to continue to do so in the future."The company's stock dropped another 8% in early trading Thursday following the FTC statement. The stock fell 15% on Wednesday on investor concerns of an impending investigation.The confirmation comes one day after Sen. Mark Warner sent a detailed letter to the acting head of the FTC calling for an investigation into Equifax's handling of the breach.In particular, Warner called for the agency to scrutinize Equifax for potential security lapses and its poor handling of customer service after the breach was disclosed.Earlier this week, a bipartisan group of dozens of senators also sent a letter urging the FTC, Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate Equifax over its executives' stock sales.Three Equifax executives sold shares of the credit-reporting firm worth nearly million shortly after the breach was discovered. The Southeastern Conference decided Thursday that they are only playing SEC teams this season amid the coronavirus pandemic.The SEC will play 10-conference games. The Trump administration will no longer seek to automatically release pregnant immigrants from detention -- a move in line with the overall efforts by the administration to hold far more immigrants in custody than its predecessors.The change in policy was sent by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement to Congress on Thursday morning and obtained by CNN.According to the new directive, immigration officers will no longer default to trying to release pregnant women who fall into immigration custody, either because they are undocumented or otherwise subject to deportation. The Obama administration policy urged officers to presume a pregnant woman could be released except for extreme circumstances.But a FAQ sent with the directive makes clear that ICE is not going to detain all pregnant immigrants.
