SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a string of recent fires in San Diego County and statewide, it’s no secret that so-called fire season, which California fire agencies say is now year round, is getting worse.So far this year, Cal Fire has battled nearly 3,800 wildfires that have so far scorched more than 292,000 acres.That figure shows a sharp increase from previous years and is far above average for this time of year.According to Cal Fire, the last five years have, on average, seen just over 118,800 acres burned statewide by this time."We are seeing more destructive, larger fires burning at rates that we have historically never seen," said Jonathan Cox, Cal Fire regional Battalion Chief.The increasing danger even has agencies like the US Department of Agriculture warning of the risks. As far as major fire incidents, so far this year there have been well over 100. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - While we can never repay our veterans for their sacrifice we can thank them every chance we get.On Sunday over 1,000 people showed up at Lindbergh Field to welcome home Honor Flight veterans who've been in Washington D.C. visiting memorials dedicated to their service. The trip is completely free for the World War II and Korean War veterans, made possible by Honor Flight San Diego.10News joined the veterans in D.C., sharing their stories throughout the weekend.Honor Flight is still working to fund the next trip, each one costs 0,000.If you'd like to donate, click here. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - University of San Diego's Lamont Smith resigned from his position as head men's basketball coach, the school announced in a news release late Wednesday night. "This situation has been difficult for all concerned, and our prayers continue to remain with everyone," the school said in the release.  Last month, Smith was arrested in the Bay Area. Smith is accused of three domestic violence charges involving a woman at the team's hotel.The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries, telling police she was intimately involved with Smith.  RELATED: USD basketball coach Lamont Smith free during investigation?In a statement released Wednesday night, the University wrote: "Tonight, Head Coach Lamont Smith resigned his position at the university.  We appreciate Coach Smith’s contributions to Torero Athletics and to the men's basketball program since he joined us three years ago.   Coach Smith elevated the level of competitiveness of our program, recruited an outstanding group of student-athletes, and established a strong foundation for future success. 1172
