Black Friday is changing this year and it may actually be less hectic than usual.Because social distancing is so important, stores are doing what they can to mitigate crowds. That includes doing away with hourly deals.“You used to have to line up to get that 6 a.m. deal, that 5 a.m. deal, and retailers are making it a lot easier to get deals over the course of Black Friday or over the course of the entire weekend to discourage you from waiting in those lines on Black Friday and bunching up in crowds like they're trying to avoid,” said Lisa Rowan, personal finance expert at Forbes Advisor.Lines will be socially distanced, and stores will be monitoring how many people are in the store at once.Sale prices will also be extended to online orders that you can pick up in store or curbside. There will also be great Cyber Monday deals, but make sure you get those orders in as soon as possible.“If you're planning on shopping online during Black Friday weekend, now is the time to do it, because it gives you a little bit of extra time to make sure those packages are going to get to you before you want to put them under the tree,” said Rowan.A lot of retailers will not be open on Thanksgiving Day, so keep that in mind while you plan ahead.Deals are expected to last all through December. 1301

Beginning Jan. 1, employers will no longer be required by federal mandate to give employees who become sick with COVID-19 two weeks of paid leave. However, any existing state or local policy regarding providing paid leave remains unchanged. According to Buzzfeed News, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked the paid leave mandate's extension from the 0 billion stimulus package passed by Congress earlier this week.According to the Huffington Post, Democrats wanted to extend the paid leave into the new year since there's an uptick in COVID-19 cases. Still, Republicans felt renewing the mandate would make it permanent, which they did not want to happen. In March, Congress passed the CARES Act, which required employers to provide employees up to two weeks of paid sick leave if they contract COVID and two weeks of paid leave to care for a sick relative. It also allowed employers to use up to 10 weeks of paid family leave if a child's school or daycare was closed due to the coronavirus.Although the latest stimulus bill doesn't extend the sick or family leave mandates, the bill would still allow businesses' to subsidize costs with a refundable tax credit if they provide paid leave until March 31, 2021.According to CNBC, 87 million workers eligible for paid sick, and family leave under the act could be affected. 1342

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese court has sentenced a former lawyer who reported on the early stage of the coronavirus outbreak to four years in prison on charges of “picking fights and provoking trouble."The court in the financial hub of Shanghai gave the sentence to Zhang Zhan following accusations she spread false information, gave interviews to foreign media, disrupted public order and “maliciously manipulated" the outbreak. Prosecutors say she published "large amounts of fake information," but her lawyers say no concrete examples have been provided to prove this. Zhang traveled to Wuhan in February and posted on various social media platforms about the outbreak that is believed to have emerged in the central Chinese city late last year. She was arrested in May amid heavy censorship to deflect criticism of the government’s initial response to the outbreak. 873
