And how in 2020, living off the land, can be quite simple and fun. "We're doing a few classes online, as well as YouTube videos to help people," Thelen said. "We want people to have access to local help, because the videos and the television shows that are out there, are in the Midwest. (KGTV) -- The Escondido Union School District is choosing to start the new school year online, and the district is also pushing back its start date to August 25.The decision was approved at the Board of Education meeting Thursday night.The board also approved two hybrid learning options for when the school district is ready to resume in-person classes.For grades kindergarten through 5th, the "Modified Classic" will provide students with four half-days on campus and one day of remote learning.For grades 6th through 8th, the "Two-Day Hybrid" will provide students with two full days on campus and three days of remote learning.EUSD does have plans to reopen its campuses by the end of September; however, the board and district said they would both continue to monitor the health conditions and make changes as needed. 848

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Three weeks after the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, the community is urging city and state leaders to make some changes.Three women were killed during the collapse. A tribute was held this week at the Encinitas City Council meeting for the victims. That’s where father and husband Pat Davis spoke out, saying healing will take time. “There will be a new normal in my life without these three gifted women,” says Davis. Davis lost his wife Julie, daughter Anne Clave, and wife’s sister in the bluff collapse. The family was out for a day at the beach on August 2 when the sand and large rocks came crashing down. “We do not have to accept tragedy if it is preventable.”Davis is urging the city to stabilize the bluff by adding concrete walls against the cliffs, sand replenishment or even cutting off some public access to the beach. Some California lawmakers are pushing for the government to pay for the stabilization after congress approved the Storm Damage Project in 2016. It has sat idle since being approved. “I do not want to see what happened to my family happen ever again.”The mayor and other city leaders toured the beaches with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday, but so far no decisions have been made.  1315

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — A man has died after firefighters found him inside a North County home where a fire had ignited Sunday afternoon.Escondido Police said the fire was reported in the 600 block of Waverly Place just before 11:30 a.m. When firefighters and police officers arrived, heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the home.Firefighters entered the home to battle the flames and found an adult man unresponsive inside. The man was taken to Palomar Medical Center where he later died, police said. His name has not been publicly released, pending notification of his family.The cause of the fire and the man's death is under investigation, police say. Facebook has removed dozens of fake accounts, pages and Instagram accounts “linked to Roger Stone and his associates” that they believe were involved in spreading disinformation to American users of the social media channels.“The people behind this activity used fake accounts — some of which had already been detected and disabled by our automated systems — to pose as residents of Florida, post and comment on their own content to make it appear more popular than it is, evade enforcement, and manage Pages,” Facebook said in a posted statement.Facebook says they removed 54 Facebook accounts, 50 pages and 4 Instagram accounts connected to this coordinated network. The accounts and pages were most active between 2015 and 2017. According to Facebook, the majority of these accounts have been unused since then."In each case, the people behind this activity coordinated with one another and used fake accounts as a central part of their operations to mislead people about who they are and what they are doing, and that was the basis for our action," Facebook said.The fake accounts posted content about Florida politics, the 2016 political candidates, hacked materials released by Wikileaks ahead of the 2016 election, in addition to the Roger Stone trial, and other information about Roger Stone and his pages, websites, books and appearances.Stone, an ally of President Trump, was convicted on seven counts including lying to congress and obstructing the House investigation into any coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia ahead of the 2016 election.Earlier this year, the FBI unsealed records that showed Stone bought hundreds of fake Facebook pages in 2016. The records said, according to Business Insider, Stone used the fake accounts to share news articles to damage political rivals and to defend himself against charges.In Wednesday’s statement from Facebook, they said these records helped their investigation. “We identified the full scope of this network following the recent public release of search warrants pertaining to the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.”The removed accounts linked to Roger Stone and associates had about 260,000 unique followers on Facebook and 61,5000 unique followers on Instagram.Facebook also announced three other networks operating dozens of other pages who were identified as “violating our policy against foreign interference and coordinated inauthentic behavior.” The other networks were operating in Ukraine, Canada, Ecuador and Brazil.Below are posts from the now-removed pages: 2564
