BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- A controlled trial has found that Chinese herbal medicine decoction maxingshigan-yinqiaosan has a similar efficacy to oseltamivir in reducing time to fever resolution in people suffering mild H1N1 influenza virus infections.Carried out by a group of Chinese researchers, headed by Prof. Wang Chen with Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital under the Capital Medical University, the study was published by the famous internal medicine journal Ann Intern Med on Tuesday.Participants of the trial were 410 young adults aged 15 to 59 years with laboratory-confirmed H1N1 influenza.The researchers concluded that both active intervention, alone and in combination, were effective in reducing time to fever resolution in young adults with H1N1 flu, and therefore suggest that maxingshigan-yinqiaosan may be an alternative to oseltamivir.

MOSCOW, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Russia successfully launched a Cosmos class military satellite on Monday, said spokesman of the Russian Space Forces Alexei Zolotukhin.A Soyuz-U carrier rocket carrying the military satellite blasted off from the Plesetsk Plesetsk space center in northern Russia at 20:00 Moscow time (1600 GMT), Zolotukhin said."The rocket put the Cosmos series military satellite into the designated orbit at 20:08 Moscow time (1608 GMT)," he added.The spokesman also said the launch of the Soyuz-U carrier rocket "was the first time for this type of rockets" in this year.The launch carried out by a team from the Russian Space Forces was supervised by Space Forces Commander Oleg Ostapenko.The satellite, Cosmos-2472, is a new member to a Russian network of about 60-70 military reconnaissance satellites.

BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The pace of China's import growth in June fell to its lowest level in 20 months as tightening monetary policies kicked in, resulting in the biggest monthly trade surplus this year, official statistics show.Import growth is expected to slow in the coming months, thanks to the broad impact of the tightening measures, before picking up in the last quarter, economists predicted.According to the General Administration of Customs (GAC), imports rose 19.3 percent, from a year earlier, to 9.7 billion, the weakest since November 2009.Exports rose 17.9 percent and despite this being the smallest increase since last December they reached a record high of 1.9 billion.The decline in import growth has led to a widening trade surplus, .3 billion in June compared to .1 billion in May. But in the first six months the trade surplus dropped 18 percent, year-on-year, to .9 billion."Import growth was weaker than expected, as imports for China's processing trade weakened and de-stocking in heavy industry continued," Wang Tao, head of China Economic Research at UBS Securities, said."Recent commodity price drops, including crude oil, also helped lower the import bill," she added.June's net imports of crude oil fell 12 percent from May to 19.43 million metric tons, the lowest since October, amid refinery maintenance and slowing energy demand, according to the GAC figures."Decelerating economic growth and tightening measures to soak up market liquidity have reined in import growth, but it is not a cause for worry," Li Wei, an economist at Standard Chartered Shanghai, said.The government is expected to announce economic growth data for the second quarter on Wednesday. Backup content includes purchased music, apps, camera roll, device settings and app data. It will also automatically upload documents from iWork in the cloud and pushes them to users' all relevant devices.The service will currently be free and replaces the former MobileMe which Apple once charged 99 U.S. dollars per year.Users will get five gigabytes of memory which is not counting purchased apps, music or books. A beta version is available on Monday and the final version will be shipping with iOS 5 this fall, with paid plans for more storage to be announced at that time.For a 24.99-dollar paid music plan named iTunes Match, a user's iTunes library will be scanned and they will gain instant access to those tracks or albums from compatible devices, rather than uploading them.
