The gunman who opened fire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California over the weekend likely acted alone, police said Tuesday. He was seen by himself in surveillance footage retrieved from the stores he visited before the shooting, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee told reporters."Our investigation is leading us more and more to believe that there was not a second person involved," Smithee said. "I don't think I could say that with absolute certainty at this point because we're still following up leads."Shortly after the attack, authorities said that they were searching for a second gunman who witnesses said may have been involved in the shooting. But Smithee later said multiple people gave differing descriptions of that person. The shooter, identified as Santino William Legan, 19, cut through a back fence to get into the festival in Gilroy's Christmas Hill Park on Sunday and began shooting at random, Smithee said. Legan killed three people and injured at least 12 others with an assault-style rifle he bought in Nevada weeks earlier, authorities said.Police killed the shooter within a minute of him opening fire.Smithee said authorities found a shotgun in the suspect's car, which was parked just northeast of the park. A bag was recovered with additional ammunition from an area by a creek, the police chief said. After the shooting, the FBI and Mineral County Sheriff's deputies searched a Walker, Nevada, residence believed to be used by the shooter and found several items including empty ammunition boxes, a sack of ammunition casings and a bag containing pamphlets on guns, according to court papers authorities filed with the Hawthorne Justice Court. The mass shooting at the popular food festival in the city about 30 miles southeast of San Jose claimed the lives of 6-year-old Stephen Romero, 13-year-old Keyla Salazar and Trevor Irby, a 2017 college graduate.Authorities continue to seek tips from the public as the investigation progresses. 1985

The Bombacinos and their son, AJ, have learned a lot the past eight years."We were thrown into this world of special needs feeding that we never really expected," mother Julie Bombacino says. When AJ was only 6 months old, he had a 45-minute seizure. It was then that doctors placed a feeding tube in his stomach and prescribed him formula. But his reaction to the formula created a new kind of problem. "Those first five, six months of him being on a feeding tube, it was constant nausea and vomiting and constipation for him, and he was just miserable," Julie says. "He also wasn't growing like he was supposed to be, and we were miserable, and we were scared."So the Bombacinos started researching and found a community that was blending whole food instead of formula.Brian Liebenow is one of those people using whole food. "Probably 2012 up [until] now, I've been blending my food," he says.Liebenow is an Air Force veteran, who travels the world. But back in 2003, doctors found lymphoma in his tonsils, leading to rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Now, he's cancer-free, but the radiation severely damaged his jawbone. "The last jaw surgery I had in 2009 cut a nerve, and I wasn't able to swallow again after that," Liebenow says. As someone who had been able to eat whatever he wanted for a majority of his life, he wasn't ready to trade in steak and vegetables for formula. So, he started taking a blender to restaurants and feeding himself pureed food through his tube. He became an advocate for what's known as a "blenderized" diet, and another inspiration for the Bombacinos to make a difference in the feeding-tube world. "We're both from big Italian families; we love to eat," Tony Bombacino says. "Why can't our son eat the same way that everybody else does, just through his tube?"Within two years, the Bombacinos created 1853

The 8-year-old Guatemalan migrant who died this week in the custody of US Customs and Border Protection had the flu, according to the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator. An official cause of death for Felipe Gomez Alonzo has not yet been determined. The boy, who was detained with his father, died shortly before midnight Christmas Eve at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico, about 90 miles north of the border crossing in El Paso, Texas. An autopsy on the boy shows he tested positive for influenza B, the medical examiner's office said Friday.Felipe was taken to the hospital Monday after a border agent noticed signs of illness, and the medical staff first diagnosed him with a common cold and later detected a fever."The child was held for an additional 90 minutes for observation and then released from the hospital mid-afternoon on December 24 with prescriptions for amoxicillin and Ibuprofen," CBP said in a statement. Amoxicillin is a commonly prescribed antibiotic. On Monday evening, the boy began vomiting and was taken back to the hospital for evaluation. The Florida Bar is investigating Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz after his threatening tweet last night about President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen.Francine Andía Walker, the group's director of communications, said the Florida Bar received a number of calls and emails regarding the tweet after it posted.According to disciplinary guidelines for the group, which is the organization of all lawyers licensed by the Supreme Court of Florida to practice law in the state, the state bar's lawyer regulation arm must determine that an allegation against a bar member "would constitute a violation of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar" before a probe is opened. On Tuesday night, just hours ahead of Cohen's public testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Gaetz -- a Trump ally -- tweeted at Cohen, "Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she'll remain faithful when you're in prison. She's about to learn a lot..."Gaetz later deleted his tweet and issued an apology. As part of their investigation, Walker said the Florida Bar on Wednesday would send Gaetz a letter outlining the allegation against him. Gaetz will have 15 days to respond. The Daily Beast first reported the investigation Wednesday."It seems that the Florida Bar, by its rules, is required to investigate even the most frivolous of complaints," said Jillian Lane Wyant, a spokeswoman for Gaetz, when asked for a response to the investigation.A state bar investigation is not a criminal probe, and in Florida, there are further layers of investigation that the probe will go through before any potential disciplinary action is brought down by the Florida Supreme Court.Rules regulating the Florida Bar say that "a lawyer's conduct should conform to the requirements of the law, both in professional service to clients and in the lawyer's business and personal affairs. A lawyer should use the law's procedures only for legitimate purposes and not to harass or intimidate others." 2055
