BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- China has sent 15,603 soldiers to participate in 18 United Nations peacekeeping missions since 1990, an official of China's Ministry of National Defense said Tuesday.Of the total, nine soldiers died while on the missions, said Tao Xiangyang.As of the end of June 2010, there were still 1,960 soldiers deployed in UN peacekeeping missions in nine mission areas or working in the UN peacekeeping department, Tao said.Also on Tuesday, a group of 38 foreign military attaches to China, who were from 36 countries, visited a training center for peacekeeping soldiers in Huairou District, suburban Beijing.

BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- China values its traditional friendship with Zimbabwe and hopes to push forward relations between the two countries as well as the two armed forces, said Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie here on Sunday.Liang made the remarks in a meeting with Zimbabwean Commander of Defence Forces Constantine Guveya Chiwenga.Liang hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries. He spoke of Zimbabwe's defence forces as a "good friend and partner" of People's Liberation Army (PLA).Since the establishment of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic ties 30 years ago, cooperation between the two nations had continuously deepened in the areas of politics, economics and trade, culture, education and health, Liang said.China expressed appreciation for Zimbabwe's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China's peaceful reunification, said Liang. He also thanked Zimbabwe for support on issues concerning China's core and major interests.Chiwenga expressed appreciation for China's long-standing support to Zimbabwe in various areas. He reaffirmed that his country would continue to stick to the one-China policy and was willing to further enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces.He also said Zimbabwe attached great importance to cooperation with China, and hoped to strengthen friendly cooperation with China within the framework of China-Africa Cooperation Forum.Earlier Sunday, Chiwenga also met with Chief of the General Staff of the PLA Chen Bingde.

TOKYO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- New Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa on Friday called for deepening of Sino-Japanese mutually beneficial strategic relations."In recent years the leaders of the two countries have created a conducive environment for the development of bilateral ties. I am very glad to see that," Niwa told Chinese press in Tokyo.Upon his assignment to China, the Japanese ambassador said China and Japan, as close neighbors, should deal with each other for the upcoming 1,000 or 2,000 years rather than 10 or 20 years. In the long run, both countries share a lot of common interests, and a stable, friendly relationship is the ultimate goal.The former president of Itochu Corp. said that he aimed to boost communication, strengthen economic cooperation, and build on the mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries.Niwa also said in the age of multipolarization, no one can conduct diplomacy with knowledge of China alone. So the relations with South Korea, and the United States are also important.Niwa was appointed by Prime Minister Naoto Kan in June to the key diplomatic post, making him the first ambassador to China from outside the government sector since the two countries normalized ties in 1972. BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- China and Britain on Monday pledged to enhance military ties.The pledge came out of the meeting between Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong and visiting British Chief of Defense Staff Jock Stirrup.The military relationship is an important component of China-Britain relations, and the two sides have witnessed frequent exchange of high-level visits and fruitful cooperation in many fields, Guo said.He said China's armed forces attached importance to the friendly cooperation with the British armed forces, and would work with it to enhance mutual trust and expand cooperation.Stirrup echoed Guo saying the military relationship was very important and the British side hoped to strengthen military cooperation with China.The two sides also discussed the development of China-Britain relations and international and regional issues of common concern.Highlighting the development of China-Britain relations in recent years, Guo said the bilateral relationship is at a new historic starting point. BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign exchange regulator Wednesday pledged to continue efforts to manage illegal capital inflows in the second half of the year.In a statement on its website, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said it had investigated up to 3.5 million cases of international trade transactions, involving a total of 440 billion U.S. dollars, during its hot money monitoring campaign, which began in February.The statement said it had identified 197 cases of illegal capital inflow, but it gave no exact sum for the cases.SAFE said earlier last month that its investigations had found 190 cases, involving 7.35 billion U.S. dollars, of hot money inflows.Capital flows into and out of China for purposes other than import and export payments are strictly controlled by SAFE, which manages the country's 2.45 trillion U.S. dollars in foreign exchange reserves.The statement also said it would introduce new foreign exchange instruments to meet domestic market demand and support China's currency reforms.China's central bank announced on June 19 that it would further the reform of the formation mechanism of the yuan exchange rate to improve its flexibility.The hot money campaign was launched amid concerns that speculators were betting on an appreciation of the Chinese currency and rising asset prices.
