(KGTV) – The Legoland Hotel in Carlsbad is set to reopen before the theme park.Legoland California officials said the hotel, located on the same grounds as the Legoland theme park, will reopen to the public on Friday, July 17.With the reopening of the hotel, officials confirmed there will be numerous health and safety modifications in place such as social distancing practices and enhanced cleaning regimes.Legoland Hotel will operate in a reduced capacity, take cashless payments, and have a face coverings requirement for all guests three years of age and over. CHICAGO — Millions of frontline healthcare workers are rolling up their sleeves for the first of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine. First out is Pfizer’s vaccine, and now, an FDA panel has recommended Moderna’s vaccine for emergency use authorization. The available Pfizer shot requires a complex and precise procedure for it to work.Before the needle even breaks the skin, a strict protocol must be followed precisely.“We're going to put it take it from the negative 80 ultra-low storage and we're gonna defrost it to refrigerator temperatures,” explained Erin Shaughnessy, director of pharmacy at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. “That's gonna give us five days of stability for the vaccine.”It’s like something out of Mission Impossible.“We installed additional security cameras and we have additional security protocols,” said Shaughnessy.She’s charged with ensuring the vaccine is securely handled and properly prepped before it’s injected.“We don't want to risk wasting any of the drugs,” she said. “The stuff is liquid gold right now.”That liquid gold must be stored at 80 below zero, in a secure location that only a few pharmacists have access to.“We have to take it out of the ultra-low freezer and move it to a refrigerator just to thaw for three hours.”Once thawed, it cannot be re-stored.“You can't put the medication back into the freezer,” said Shaughnessy. “Once inside, you have to use it or you're going to lose it. It's gonna have a five-day refrigerated expiration.”Pfizer’s vaccine protocol also requires the vaccine to be protected from UV light and the dilution must be gently inverted exactly 10 times. Shaken too hard, says Shaughnessy, and it could go bad.“It's very, very specific," she explained.That’s when the clock starts ticking.“Once they're thawed and reconstituted, basically diluted down to make the actual doses, then that's when we have six hours on the clock going from that dilution point into someone's arm,” said Luke Hvass, a clinical pharmacist at Rush.Each dose is recorded and logged. It’s a symphony of procedures that must come together like clockwork.“It's a lift for a lot of hospitals, a lot of organizations, but I think it's a challenge everybody is ready to rise to because everyone is so excited about getting this vaccine process started,” said Shaughnessy.The Department of Health and Human Services has expanded the scope of who can act as vaccinators. CANARSIE, Brooklyn — This past weekend has been excruciating for a Brooklyn woman who was the victim of a heartless robbery.Anaika Forbes' 13-year-old shih tzu pekingese was swiped from her parked car. The brazen theft happened Saturday at about 3:45 p.m. on Avenue N near Canarsie Road in Canarsie, where the vehicle was parked.Forbes, who lives in a basement apartment on Avenue N, was overwhelmed that day dealing with flooding in her unit due to afternoon showers.“I was just going back and forth to the car bringing my stuff out, it was raining and just so much was happening,” she told PIX11.Her dog, Taffy, was placed in the unlocked car during the shuffle.When Forbes stepped back into her home to grab a few more things, an unknown woman snatched Taffy, Forbes said.In surveillance footage obtained by Forbes taken from across the street, a woman is seen opening the passenger car door of Forbes' dark-colored car, grabbing the dog and nonchalantly walking away with her by the leash.“She’s not a barking dog. She’s super sweet; she would go with anyone,” a tearful Forbes said. “I just want her back.”Forbes, who canvassed the neighborhood all day and night on Saturday and for a good part of Sunday, has launched an online campaign to get Taffy back, even offering a 0 reward for her return.“Please return Taffy, no questions asked,” she said in a plea to the unidentified woman. “She is my everything, I’ve had her since she was 3 months old.” 1466

CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) - Campo Elementary School students were forced off a school bus after a man stormed onto the bus armed with two knives.Matthew Barker, 37, of Campo, was arrested by San Diego Sheriff's Department after he boarded the bus packed with students at an apartment complex near Jeb Stuart Rd. Friday around 8:30 a.m., according to Mountain Empire Unified School District superintendent Kathy Granger and SDSO.SDSO said Barker entered the bus and was immediately told by the driver to leave. Barker ignored the driver and continued up the stairs and toward students before the driver got in front of him.As Barker tried to push past the driver, a grandmother of one of the students saw what was happening and got onto the bus to help the driver, SDSO said. That's when Barker reportedly pulled out a knife and swung at the driver.As the driver and grandmother struggled with Barker, an older student ushered students to the back exit of the school bus and called to nearby parents for help. The students were able to exit out of the bus unharmed.Another good Samaritan then got on the bus, at which point Barker turned the knife on himself, according to SDSO. The Samaritan pried the knife away from Barker and pulled him off the bus as deputies arrived.Barker has been charged with felony assault. SDSO is investigating the incident and believes drugs were a factor in the attack.The bus driver and Samaritans were not injured."We take safety very seriously and want to assure you our buses remain a safe form of transportation for getting children to and from school," Granger said in a statement.Counselors will be at the elementary school Tuesday to offer students support if needed, she added. 1759
