It was a moment one lucky Norfolk, Virginia couple didn’t know was coming.Derek Page and his fiancée, Veronica Singer, got a one-of-a-kind gift Sunday for their upcoming wedding in October.“I knew my brother was planning something, but I had no idea it would be this,” explained Derek.Derek’s brother, Alex Page, planned the surprise after coming across a Facebook post.“Instead of getting something off their registry, something that’s replaceable, I just thought it’d be a fun, unique different gift that creates a lasting memory,” said Alex Page.32-year-old Miles Hoyle surprised the couple on their porch by playing a variety of songs on his accordion. The accordionist has been playing the squeezebox for 13 years. The performances are something he calls 'Accordion-at-your-Door' where Hoyle plays songs for special occasions and celebrations - one note and one doorstep at a time.“I enjoy it a lot,” Hoyle said. “I think it helps bring them a little joy too, at least I hope so.”Hoyle started playing outside of people’s homes before the pandemic but said business ramped up right after the stay-at-home order went into effect.“I’ve also played outside a few restaurants on their porches,” he said.Hoyle also plays the accordion in his two bands, The Fighting Jamesons and Mosquito Cabaret, but as the COVID-19 crisis put most live entertainment on pause, his solo performances picked up traction.“I think it’s a win-win for everybody,” Hoyle said. The final song Hoyle played for the couple was Elvis Presley’s “Can’t help falling in love.” The couple applauded after the 15-minute show ended. Derek Page said the surprise left them with lasting memories.“I could not have even expected this, not in a million years,” he said. “This was amazing. Life-long memory here.”To book Miles Hoyle for an Accordion-at-your-Door performance, click here.WTKR's Antoinette DelBel first reported this story. 1907

INDIANAPOLIS -- As Danica Patrick prepares to make her last trip around the track as a professional racecar driver at the Indianapolis 500, her future is already starting to fill with big gigs. Patrick has been tapped to host the 2018 ESPYs this July in Los Angeles and she'll be the first female to host the sports award show, ever. Being a first isn't a new thing for Patrick, who has also been the first female driver to lead laps and score a top-five finish in the Indianapolis 500 as well as the first woman to win a major-league open-wheel race in a North American Series after her 2008 IndyCar Series victory in the Indy Japan 300.She was also the first woman to win a NASCAR Cup Series pole and finished eighth in that Daytona 500 race achieving the highest finishing position ever for a woman. “Now, Danica Patrick continues her trailblazing career trajectory when she takes the stage on July 18 as the first woman to host ‘The ESPYs,’” said Alison Overholt, ESPN’s vice president and editor-in-chief, ESPN The Magazine, espnW and “The ESPYs.” Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning hosted the 2018 ESPYS.  1197

It's a day Vasti Morris has been anticipating for over two decades.“This is the citizenship packet from immigration, so I became a citizen today,” she exclaims.Morris has been working towards getting her citizenship since she came to America 21 years ago as a refugee from West Africa. “Liberia, we had civil war for a very, very long time, and just somewhere where you didn't have to worry about if there's going to be a war or am I going to eat today,” she says. “So, it was a dream and that dream came true.”But going from refugee to student to U.S. citizen was a difficult journey.Immigration attorney Chirag Patel of Baltimore says the requirements for immigrants are changing almost daily, making the process longer and harder.“There are a lot of restrictions coming into play this fiscal year,” says Patel. After completing the N-400, the application for naturalization, and submitting it to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the government then takes a deep dive into your history through a long list of questions. Those questions include topics like criminal history, polygamy and deportation.“They really do scrutinize everything,” Patel says. After finally finishing the 20-page application, the screening process begins, and so does the waiting game. This application eventually ends up at a field office, where the applicant waits for an interview and a test.“It could take about a year before you get an interview,” Patel explains. In fact, a year is best case scenario, Patel says. And if you make a mistake on your application, you may have to start over.“We have to make sure we know everything to be able to get through this process properly,” he says.As for that test, Patel says, “You have to study for the civics exam and make sure you know all of the U.S. history and the political questions.”Even if an applicant makes it to the test portion, they could continue to wait up to four months to be approved.“A lot of people don't understand how difficult it is,” Morris says.Morris, who is a nurse studying for her PhD, can now add “American citizen" to her resume, which means she can vote.“I’m so excited,” she says gleefully. “November 6, I'm going to vote.”It’s a day Morris says she’ll never forget, as she reflects on the struggles it took to finally get her citizenship.“I didn't know I was going to be emotional,” she says. “It’s just knowing that this moment is finally here.”It was a drudging path to a dream--one she says was worth every second. 2518

Tindley Accelerated School say an instructional assistant was fired Tuesday after she was found in possession of a handgun on campus.Police were called to the school at 3960 Meadows Drive around 9 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a staff member with a handgun.Officers arrived and took 31-year-old Dominique Squires into custody on preliminary charges of carrying a handgun without a license.According to school administrators, Squires was employed as an instructional assistant at the facility. Tindley administrators said all proper procedures were followed and no students were in danger at any point during the incident.Administrators also said Squires’ employment with Tindley was terminated immediately for violating school policy. As of Wednesday afternoon, Squires had been released without bond. The case was awaiting a formal charging decision by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.A call to Squires seeking comment Wednesday was not immediately returned.  1025

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis family is pleading for help to find the man they say broke into their home and ended up in bed with two little girls. Veronica Mildenberg says her 6-year-old and 10-year-old daughters were sleeping in the top bunk of her bed when the stranger climbed up with them. The 10-year-old woke up and screamed. “He must have climbed up the stairwell and got in bed with her. That’s when she hollered for her grandma,” Mildenberg said. “He woke her up because he touched her leg.”The surveillance video below shows the suspect peeking into the windows of the home on New York Street around 1:45 a.m. Minutes later, family members say he went to the back of the home and climbed through a kitchen window with a broken lock.   779
