SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Reports show some people are so desperate to get the new COVID-19 vaccine that they are offering boutique physicians thousands of dollars to jump the line — but doctors say that is not an option.Money can certainly get you perks: personalized care, treatment, even at-home COVID tests."Concierge clients definitely get privileges," Dr. Donna Ni said. "They really don't want to go to the doctor's office. They want to be seen at home. So a lot of the outpatient services are actually delivered at the patient's home."Dr. Ni owns San Diego Concierge Medicine, a boutique private practice offering medical and aesthetic services. With another surge in COVID-19 cases and the new vaccine roll-out, she says her clients are getting curious."They ask, 'How can I make sure I have plasma antibodies? How can I make sure I get Remdesivir? Do I qualify for Regeneron?'" Dr. Ni said.Some reports show the rich and famous in Los Angeles are getting antsy, asking their concierge doctors to administer the vaccine now. Some are even offering thousands of dollars in donations to jump the line. But Dr. Ni says that is not possible."It is only to the hospitals, to the front lines, and none of my members are going to be able to get that," Ni said. "Pfizer is highly controlled by the government right now, so we just tell the clients to wait a little."What they are doing now is preparing and connecting clients who fall in the second tier to hospitals with the vaccine."We want to make sure that our clients are one of the first in the second tiers," Ni said.While there are no jumping tiers or skipping the line, Dr. Ni says concierge clients do get perks, a doctor personally advocating on their behalf to get care quickly."We are not trying to get them to a different priority group," Ni said. "We just want to make sure that when that priority group hits, they are eligible for care."The only people who are eligible to receive the first wave of COVID-19 vaccines are hospital and emergency staff, as well as people at long-term care facilities. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- When asked if his success is surreal, comedian Jo Koy said: "I earned it."Jo Koy, whose real name is Joseph Herbert, knew he wanted to be a comedian since the age of 11. He has been in the comedy scene since the late 1980s and said he "kept grinding." That hard work paid off as Koy is now getting ready to film his third Netflix special and performs to sold-out audiences across the country. Family has been a central theme in his routine, often talking about raising his teenage son and growing up with his Filipino mom. His son, now 16, is getting involved in helping dad refine his show. "He's an associate producer on [the Netflix special] 'Comin' in Hot.' He came up with my last joke... he's the one that told me to wear what I was wearing. That outfit, he picked it out," Koy said.Koy tells 10News his mom loves the attention, "My mom always wants more!" Koy said. When asked if there was enough diversity and inclusion in comedy, the half-Filipino artist he feels like the doors are now, "open and there's a lot more opportunity, but we still have a long way to go." He's not going to get much time to check out the sights in San Diego. He's focusing on work and putting on great shows at the Civic Theater this week. "I stay working, man! I'll stop working when I die! I'm always going to do stand-up," Koy said. "This is my passion. I'll be 80 and I'll be on stage... this is what I was born to do." SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Firefighters in California are racing to slow the spread of wildfires that burned nearly one million acres in a week and destroyed hundreds of homes. The fires have killed five people, torched nearly 700 homes and other structures and forced tens of thousands from their houses. Light winds, cooler nighttime weather helped fire crews make a bit of progress on Saturday. But their efforts could be hurt by warm, dry weather, erratic wind gusts and lightning in the forecast. Firefighters are beginning to get help from other states and President Trump issued a major disaster declaration to provide federal assistance. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - Developers in San Diego are offering a new concept for families looking for homes: Multi-Generational Housing.The homes include a separate suite within a single structure. The suite has a bedroom, living area, bathroom and a small kitchen.Developers say the idea designed with let elderly relatives, adult children who move back home or relatives with special needs in mind."You’re still with the family, but you have that privacy to step away and still be independent," says Bill Ostrem, the San Diego Division President for Lennar Homes. "At the same time, if you want to engage with the family, the family wants to engage with you it’s right there."Lennar says they started developing these kinds of homes in 2011 in Arizona. They saw a need as more extended families began living together.The suites help with that.Currently, Lennar is building their "NextGen" homes in the Sterling Heights community near 4-S Ranch. Ostrem says it's become their most popular model.About 1/3 of all the homes they've sold in Sterling Heights have the extra suite. They have other developments with NextGen homes in 13 states."I think it just makes sense," says Austin Dias, a Co-Partner with The Phair Company. They're about to start construction on La Mesa Summit Estates just north of the 94 freeway near Lemon Grove. All 30 homes in that development will have a "Multi-Generational" suite.RELATED: Developer wants to build Multi-Generational housing in La MesaDias says they held a couple of community meetings during the planning stages. The overwhelming response they got was from families looking for these kinds of homes."We see this a lot in other countries," Dias says. "Now people in America are starting to embrace it."The homes are pricey. Models in Lennar's Sterling Heights development run between .7 and million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Bridging the gap between the community and the police department, the Fairmount Park Neighborhood Association threw a party for the men and women who patrol their streets every day. Daniel Palmer and Russ Connelly reminisced the good old days when the original owners from the 1950s took good care of the then-new Fairmount Park community. "Being in the area that is in the center of everything, it's very desirable," said Connelly, president of the Fairmount Park Neighborhood Association. But as the years went on and the homes changed hands, so did the vibe of the neighborhood."The streets were dirty and the houses were getting more dilapidated," Palmer said. Palmer said there were numerous reports of drugs, break-ins, and speeding problems along Parrot Street."We have a straight part of a downhill side of the street called the 'Parrot Way speedway,'" Connelly said. "A person was hit and run just a couple of hundred yards from my house," Palmer said. But the moment they shared their concerns with patrol officers, they said something changed. Instead of merely ticketing offenders, they said the officers took the time to engage with the community."I think that's had an effect on a lot of the neighbors because they suddenly seem to slow down, watch for traffic, watch what's going on," Connelly said. "You see people putting a coat of paint on their house. You see people picking up their yards. People are happier. They feel more secure," Palmer said. So as a token of their appreciation and hard work, the Fairmount Park Neighborhood Association threw a party for the Mid-City police officers and elected officials who make their area safe. Thank you, they said, for making Fairmount Park the desirable, sweet community it once was. "It's more of a family environment than it was five to six years ago. In all honesty, it's a lot cleaner. People are more friendly. There's more participation, more interaction. And I think that's in conjunction with cooperation of our local governments and our San Diego Police Department," said Palmer. 2081
