I want you to know exactly where we are with our discussions with the Big 3 leadership and protecting our members and their facilities during this international crisis.I announced this past Sunday that the International UAW had formed a COVID-19/Coronavirus task force with GM, Ford and FCA to implement enhanced protections for manufacturing and warehouse employees at all three companies.I want to be very transparent about what happened during our conversation Sunday with the Big 3. The UAW leadership, based on the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations on how to protect ourselves and our communities, requested a two-week shutdown of operations to safeguard our members, our families and our communities. Your UAW leadership feels very strongly, and argued very strongly, that this is the most responsible course of action.The companies, however, were not willing to implement this request. They asked for 48 hours to put together plans to safeguard workers in their facilities. (Ford Motor Company has indicated this week that they are willing to rotate down shifts and are planning to shut down all European operations next week.)The 48-hour window is up this afternoon. We will be evaluating what the companies submit today and there will be a meeting this evening at 6 p.m., where the Task Force will review plans for the safety and health of all members, their families and our communities.I want to be very clear here: If the UAW leadership on the task force, myself and Vice Presidents Cindy Estrada, Terry Dittes and Gerald Kariem, are not satisfied that our members will be protected, we will take this conversation to the next level.These companies will be put on notice that the UAW will use any and all measures to protect our brothers and sisters who are working in their facilities. And make no mistake, we have powerful allies who have stepped up to help us. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, despite what you might have heard in some recent erroneous reports, was instrumental in assisting us in bringing the Big 3 to the table, as was U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell.I know these are very difficult days for all of us. BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -  A Green Country, Oklahoma couple got the opportunity of a lifetime, a free wedding from perfect strangers planned in a day."It's all because of God that all of this has happened," said Willow Creek Mansion owner Cortney Gertner.The sun set outside the Broken Arrow mansion Wednesday evening, but the excitement inside was rising. "I didn't think we would find a bride and groom," said Poppy's Garden owner Meagan Ferren.This all started with her leftover flowers from a photo shoot a few days before."She was going to throw all of the flowers away and I was like, you can't just throw all of those beautiful flowers away," Gertner said."I was like, I know it's going to make me absolutely sick to my stomach," Ferren said.But Ferren had an idea."Then she was like, no we should find somebody that wants to get married in the next day or two and I said, seriously? BOULEVARD, Calif. (KGTV) — Firefighters worked quickly to douse flames from a brush fire along Interstate 8 in the East County Saturday.The Crestwood Fire ignited near Old Highway 80 at Tierra Del Sol Road, and grew to 32 acres, according to Cal Fire San Diego. Crews were able to hold the fire at Old Highway 80. As of 8:52 a.m., Cal Fire said crews said the fire was 45% contained.No structures were damaged or threatened, though six homes were evacuated. No injuries were reported.About 25 engines, eight hand crews, and two dozers were called out to the fire. A stretch of Old Highway 80 in the area and the number two lane of I-8 were closed, but have since reopened. 680

Best Buy informed its employees on Wednesday of plans to close all 250 of its mobile standalone stores in the United States by the end of May, a company spokesperson confirmed. The stores are predominately located within malls and are much smaller than Best Buy's big box stores. The mobile standalone shops are mostly used for the sale of cellphones and accessories. These locations do not sell some of Best Buy's bigger ticket items such as televisions, computers and appliances. The standalone stores are only responsible for 1 percent of Best Buy's overall revenue.Although thousands of employees will be affected by Wednesday's announcement, the company said the goal is to transfer employees currently working in standalone stores into Best Buy's big box locations. Best Buy said that 85 percent of its standalone stores are within 3 miles of a big box store. "Employees will have three months to work with internal recruiters, and field and store leaders across the country are rallying to help transition employees to big box stores and open in-home advisor roles," Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly wrote in a letter to employees, and shared with Scripps. "For those who leave the company after May 31, we will give them severance and assist them in finding roles outside Best Buy."Despite Best Buy closing its mall locations, the big box stores will continue selling cellphones and accessories. "We feel good about the opportunity to retain customers and transition them to another one of our sales channels.
