SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota health officials say a number of people who attended the 10-day Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this month, including some who came from out of state, have come down with COVID-19. State Department of Health officials on Thursday didn't give an exact number of rallygoers who tested positive, but they said it was under 25. State epidemiologist Josh Clayton says the health department has received reports from other states that people who traveled from the rally have tested positive. Contact tracers have been able to work with most people to determine who they were around and may have infected. But the health department has issued public warnings for two bars — one in Sturgis and the other at a popular stop for riders along U.S. Highway 385 near Mount Rushmore. Clayton said they did not know how many people were exposed at the bars.The health department did not immediately reply to a question about what other states have reported infections in people who attended the rally.The rally, which ended Sunday, brought hundreds of thousands of people from far and wide to Sturgis. Before it kicked off, some locals and officials worried that it could cause an outbreak that could follow rallygoers after they went home. 1263

SPRING VALLEY, Calif (KGTV) -- As campuses like Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley remain closed because of COVID-19 concerns, some parents and students say they’re getting tired of waiting because they want a return to the classroom and sports.“I want to play my sport again. I want to see my friends. I’m a freshman, I want to get that high school experience", says Mason Asvell a student at Steele Canyon High.He wants to play water polo again.Under the current state rules, youth sports can practice as long as they follow the COVID-19 guidelines.What they can’t do is play games, and that’s something Troy Mack doesn’t agree with, that’s why he organized this rally with others parents and students. Mack's daughter plays golf, and he believes the decision to allow games should be based on each individual sport.Mack adds, “I’m just stumped why we can’t make this golf work. There isn’t much of a distant sport than golf.”And this is where the CDC stands on this issue. On their website, it says the risk of a COVID-19 spread increases based on the number of people a participant interacts with, how close they physically are to others, and if they share equipment with multiple players.A spokesperson for the county has said they are looking to the state to provide guidance when it comes to reopening youth sports, which some students say is a waiting game they don’t want to play.Student Kailyn DeGuzman says, “Our mental health is being drained and will continue to be drained if we don’t go back to in person and in school.”And until something changes, the parents ABC 10News spoke with say they’ll continue to find ways to make their voices heard. 1675

The coronavirus sped up the process."We have set up signage outside and in the waiting area to get into the restaurant where the patron can see that they can actually download the menus onto their phones and then once they go to the tables they can go ahead and pull those menus up."General Manager at Cherry Cricket Ballpark, Samantha Taxin, said the way for people to pull up their menus is a success so far."It’s a safer way to pull up the digital menu. I’m barely printing menus so it seems to be really working for the public, to be able to pull that up. September Buys, a teacher in Michigan, says she doesn't really like garage sales, and that should tell you just how far she will go to help her students this year.Buys, an art teacher at Crossroads Middle School in Grand Rapids, said she was feeling helpless about all the uncertainty surrounding the school year-- and decided to channel her frustration into cleaning."I just started cleaning out my closet, because that felt better, just to let some things go," she said. "I made a pile, and then I moved onto the girls’ closet, and then I moved onto the toy room, and just this pile grew and grew and grew.”The idea came to her to hold a garage sale to give away the items. She also reached out to the community on Facebook, asking if others had items they wanted to contribute as well.Instead of selling what's been collected, Buys asked people to donate art supplies or purchase items off the Amazon wishlist she created to help her students.“I think it’s really, really important for people to connect with each other and be kind to each other and if you have something extra, why not share it? Things are things… I think what’s more important for me right now is to make sure that my students are cared for and that they have the things they need to feel like they can express what’s going on, they can kind of get some of that stuff out, and the more materials and stuff I have for my students, the better.”Buys plans to take all the art supplies to create individual 'art kits' for her students."We always need help with purchasing supplies – but this year especially, whether the kids are at home or whether they’re in person, they’re not going to be able to share supplies in the same way. I can’t take one package of pencils and put it in the middle of the table for kids to share anymore. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - An emotional reunion for a woman in Spring Valley with the first responders who helped save her after a crash. Megan Carbonell was reunited Monday with several of the paramedics with the San Miguel Fire Department. They were first on the scene in September of 2017 when she was struck by a driver while crossing Cristobal Drive wither her daughter. She suffered severe injuries, but survived. “If it wasn’t for you guys I wouldn’t be here,” she told the group of firefighters. 515
