BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday pledged to work with Indonesia to push forward the bilateral strategic partnership.     China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and top political advisor Jia Qinglin made the remarks in separate meetings with Taufik Kiemas, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia. "We applaud Indonesia's long-term adherence to the one-China policy," he noted, expressing appreciation for the country's support in issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.     The two nations, both as important nations in the Asia-Pacific region, enjoyed broad common interests, Wu said, hoping that the two sides would enhance parliamentary exchanges and cooperation to enrich the contents of bilateral ties.     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, told Taufik that the China-Indonesia ties had stepped into a new phase of rapid, healthy and stable growth.     "We are ready to work with Indonesia to expand cooperation in economy, trade and culture to advance our strategic partnership," Jia said, noting that this would benefit the two peoples and help regional and world peace and development.     Jia hoped the CPPCC, the top political advisory body, and the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia would maintain close exchanges and learn from each other to help promote relations between the two nations.     This China trip from Dec. 6 to 9 was Taufik's first visit abroad since taking office in October this year. Taufik told Chinese leaders that this showed the importance attached by Indonesia to relations with China.     Indonesia valued the friendly and cooperative ties with China, he said, hoping that the two nations would increase pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure construction and resources exploitation.     He said the People's Consultative Assembly was ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the NPC and the CPPCC to contribute to comprehensive growth of Indonesia-China ties.     Taufik reiterated that his country would firmly stick to the one-China policy.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States highly value the fruitful scientific and technological results achieved in the past three decades, and agreed to start dialogue on aviation and railway cooperation, said a joint statement issued after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama here on Tuesday.     "The two sides applauded the rich achievements in scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges between the two countries over the past 30 years since the signing of the China-U.S. Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology," said the statement.     Both sides agreed to further upgrade the level of exchanges and cooperation in scientific and technological innovation through the China-U.S. Joint Commission on Science and Technology Cooperation.     The two countries "look forward to expanding discussions on space science cooperation and starting a dialogue on human space flight and space exploration, based on the principles of transparency, reciprocity and mutual benefit," said the statement.     The two sides will exchange visits of the NASA Administrator and the appropriate Chinese counterpart in 2010, it said.     The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation on civil aviation, and to expand the Memorandum of Agreement for Technical Cooperation in the field of Civil Aviation between the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States.     Besides the aviation field, Chinese and U.S. officials also hope the Chinese and U.S. public and private bodies to jointly build high speed railways, said the statement.

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday voiced its strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to an EU statement which denounced the execution of two Tibetans convicted of murder in last year's Lhasa riot.     The Swedish EU presidency released a statement Thursday, denouncing the recent death penalty handed down to two Tibetans involved in the Lhasa riot and asking China to abolish the capital sentences.     "We are strongly dissatisfied with and firmly oppose the EU statement," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said in a news release.     The Lhasa violence involving beating, smashing, looting and burning in 2008 was a sabotage activity "premeditated, organized and masterminded" by the ** Lama group, who instigated Tibetan separatists in and out of China to fuel up the incident, Ma said.     China's legal institutions have carried out fair and open trials and brought only the culprits of the criminal activities to justice, he said. "This was China's internal affair and judicial sovereignty which allows no other country to interfere with."     China asks the EU to abide by the principles of equality and mutual respect and not to send any misleading signals to Tibetan separatists, so as to ensure sound and stable development of EU-China relations, Ma said.
