The warehouses that were built remained, and the Navy turned those into office buildings. Now, just one warehouse stands. This is the old building for Navy offices and will soon be torn down now that the new headquarters opened in October.Stuyvesant estimated the cost of their new building at around 5,000,000, explaining the deal they made so the Navy did not have to pay for the facility.“In return for leasing that land to the developer, they would build the Navy a new headquarters building,” he said.Manchester Financial Group signed a lease on the land in 2006, agreeing to fund the 17-story, 373,000-square-foot building. The inside of the building features historic Navy photos, offices, conference space, a gym for employees, and the oceanfront view. A restaurant for the public will also be added to the first floor.Construction on the new Navy facility started in 2018 and ended in 2020. Now, the last remaining warehouse that once housed the Navy offices is set to be torn down.“It really as underutilized and frankly not an attractive parcel to be really on the front doorstep of San Diego,” said Stuyvesant.Earlier in 2020, Manchester sold part of the lot to IQHQ, which is currently building a science hub. Manchester still holds part of the property and plans to build a hotel and plaza on that space.Stuyvesant said this deal is a win-win because the Navy got a new facility that they would not otherwise be able to fund, and the city will benefit from a nicer view and the taxes that come from the property.“The money that we have for facilities really needs to be focused on building piers, building electrical infrastructure, building hangars for the aircrafts, repairing runways,” said Stuyvesant. 2377

The tethered drone doesn't require an FAA certificate, unlike untethered drones, Lee said.The tether is virtually invisible, three millimeters wide, but don't let that fool you. It is reinforced with Kevlar, a material most commonly associated with bullet-proof vests. The tiny chord serves two purposes, to provide power and send back information. "There's no wireless transmission, no way anyone can intercept it and there's no one who can take control of the drone," Lee said that makes it very appealing to agencies like police and Customs and Border Protection. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, San Diego County supervisors met privately to discuss options if the county is moved back into the most restrictive tier.Although the meeting is taking place behind closed doors, it's not stopping them from sharing their frustrations publicly.At a press conference on Monday morning, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher called the actions of two of his fellow board members reckless and irresponsible."Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristin Gaspar are inciting a fight between government and small business," Fletcher stated. “They are exploiting the pain and suffering the small businesses are going through as a result of the global pandemic as a wedge for political gain."Responding to the statements made at the press conference, Supervisor Kristin Gaspar said that she's never supported an approach to reopening that was not supported by the Public Health Officer and clinical leadership team.In a statement, Gaspar wrote, "Supervisor Fletcher knows this but prefers to continue spreading this false narrative because he is actively running a campaign against me. I measured the distance between our office doors, and it is 7 feet, so he and I can actually have a socially distanced conversation anytime he isn't holding a press conference."The public display of animosity comes as supervisors continue to discuss different options, including taking legal action against the state, to prevent potentially sliding back into the most restrictive risk level.Fletcher is against any potential legal action; Gaspar is for it.A spokesperson from Supervisor Jim Desmond's office said Desmond is weighing the options and waiting to hear any potential ramifications.On Monday, Supervisor Dianne Jacob told 10News, "I will do what is legally possible and where we are on solid legal ground. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - North Park business owners are pushing back against Mayor Kevin Faulconer's recent decision to remove upwards of 400 parking spots from 30th Street.The extra space would make way for protected bike lanes from Howard to Juniper, helping the city achieve climate action goals. "Eliminating all of the parking I think will effectively destroy some of the businesses that are here," Said Lara Worm, who owns Bivouac Ciderworks on 30th Street. In a May 16 memo, Faulconer said the decision would bring new mobility choices into the neighborhood and help with a dangerous situation for bicyclists and riders of dockless scooters.RELATED: Hundreds of parking spaces in North Park could be replaced with protected bike lanesThe plan calls for removing about 420 parking spaces and instead installing bollards that block off bike lanes, much like what is currently on J Street in downtown. The North Park Main Street Association is now calling on the mayor to opt for an alternative that would keep about 200 spots on 30th, and protect bikes with parked cars as the barrier. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was injured late Friday after a stabbing near Fox Canyon in eastern San Diego.A 25-year-old man was with two other people in the 4900 block of Auburn Dr. just after 10 p.m. when an unknown suspect walked up to the group and got in an argument with the victim, San Diego Police said.The argument escalated, ending with the suspect stabbing the victim multiple times in the left side of his body, police said.
