CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Loved ones are grieving the COVID-19 death of a South Bay great-grandfather, while his wife fights for her life on a ventilator.George Torres, 67, first started feeling sick in early November."He had a headache, diarrhea, and shortness of breath," said his daughter Rachel Cedillos.Cedillos says his symptoms got worse and in mid-November. George was taken to the ER, tested positive for COVID-19 and placed on a ventilator one day later.Several days later, his wife of 49 years, Alma came down with her own symptoms. By the end of the month, both of Cedillos' parents were on a ventilator.On December 3, George Torres, a grandfather of nine and a great-grandfather, passed away."Oddly enough, I felt panic. Didn't know what to do. All I could do was just cry," said a tearful Cedillos.Cedillos says her father was always joking and laughing, and made everyone feel comfortable."The friendliest man. The greatest man to talk to about anything ... He was silly almost all the time ... He loved, loved his grandchildren," said Cedillos.He worked as a part-time handyman and Lyft driver seven days a week. Cedillos isn't sure how her father contracted the virus, but says he was diligent about masks, for himself, and his passengers."If they refused, he would refuse to give them a ride," said Cedillos.As COVID-19 cases continue to grow, Cedillos makes this urgent appeal."Please, please be careful. Be responsible. Wear a mask," said Cedillos.As for Cedillo's mother, Cedillos says she's performed well on recent breathing tests, and is hopeful she'll recover. Alma does not yet know her husband has passed."It’s extremely painful knowing we have to tell her weren’t she wakes up," said Cedillos.George did not have any underlying conditions. (KGTV) — Police are searching for the person responsible for stabbing a man during a reported fight in Chula Vista.Police said they were called Wednesday just after 1:30 a.m. over a reported fight in the 500 block of Flower Street and that someone had been injured.Chula Vista Police arrived to find a Hispanic man in his 20s unresponsive with a stab wound on his upper body.The man was treated at the scene, but died of his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.No suspect was in custody Wednesday and police could not offer a possible description.Chula Vista Police Homicide Detectives were investigation the stabbing and ask anyone with information to call 619-691-5074. 732

(KGTV) -- Sweetwater Unified School District officials said Thursday they are investigating an incident in which someone disrupted an online classroom by playing inappropriate audio.According to a district spokesperson, the incident happened Wednesday during a session taught by an Olympian High School teacher. The incident was reported by both a student and the teacher.Audio described as "sexual" in nature was played in the virtual classroom.District spokesperson Manny Rubio told 10News that the source of the audio is unlikely to be a hacker, and that a student or students cooperated in the disruption."Each course has an access code and we believe there are other students using those codes to enter and create disruptions," said Rubio. "Our IT staff is looking to identify the specific sources."It's unknown if the school or district requires students to use cameras to attend the online classroom.The district's 25 campuses matriculated over 40,000 students for online classes this school year, which started Monday. Students have been assigned equipment and software to access their virtual classes, including Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. Rubio said that since Monday, there have a few similar incidences of disruption but that a great majority of students are having positive experiences. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista business specializing in hand-woven bags faced a logistics mess due to overtaxed delivery systems during the pandemic.Daisy Romero founded El Cholo's Bag back in 2008. It's a completely online business and in 2020 sales skyrocketed,"The e-commerce side just blew up," she said.The business is rooted in Mexican tradition, which is how she describes her bags, "very traditional Mexican bag, they’re made from recycled plastic. They’re the kind of bag our grandmothers used to use for the market."Many like the fact the bag is pandemic friendly."You can wash them, Lysol it, wipe it down with a Clorox wipe, it’s easy," she said.But, her small business hit a big shipping problem."At one point I just had dozens of lost packages, throughout the system and it didn’t matter if it was UPS or USPS, it didn’t matter. Everything was just so strained," says Romero. The shipping issue strained Romero's bottom line as well."It is a struggle, you know sometimes you’re in the negative because you had to refund three packages and you haven’t sold anything that day," she said solemnly.She learned from the challenges, insuring her business so the next time a package gets lost, she doesn't get burned.She's also working around the system, driving to San Diego customers."It’s easier to make sure your local customers get their product and it’s not going to be stuck in some distribution center even though it’s five miles away in Chula Vista," Romero said.As for her dreams, the pandemic put them on pause."My biggest goal for this year was to break into the European market and go to Paris and do all these things. 2020 was like, 'not today,'" she said.She hopes to bring her artisans' work to the world and share a bit of tradition. 1777
