A Utah man is suing McDonald's and Coca-Cola's main bottler, Swire Coca-Cola, after he allegedly had his drink spiked at a McDonald's with the heroin substitute Suboxone.In a complaint filed in Utah's Third Judicial District Court, the plaintiff Trevor Walker alleges that his diet coke was spiked on Aug. 12, 2016, at a McDonald's drive-thru in Riverton, Utah.According to the complaint, Walker and his family went through the drive-thru, where they ordered two happy meals, two chicken sandwiches, and two Diet Cokes.Walker drank the beverage as he and his family went home, the complaint stated. While watching his children, Walker said that his fingers became non-responsive, and he began to lose feeling in his arms and legs."My life and being here is the biggest miracle of the whole situation," Walker told KTSU-TV in Utah. "As I started to shift my body, I started to sense almost like a lapse in time, like between the time I would move my hands there was a delay."The complaint said that during the incident, Walker sent the following text messages to his wife:Text No. 1: "Something is vey (sic) wrong with me. I am having sensations in my arms and everything is moving slowly. I'm feeling scared. I don't know what to do."Text No. 2: "I'm so scared I'm trying to be calm. I need you."Soon after sending the texts, the complaint alleges that Walker "blacked out," and fell onto a nearby table and collapsed onto the floor. Walker's wife came home, and he was taken to the emergency room.While at the hospital, the complaint stated that Walker's wife compared her Diet Coke to his, and noticed that his drink had, "speckles and a film on the surface—a fact that Trevor (Walker) was not aware of due to the lid placed by McDonald's on the drink."Walker's wife called the Unified Police Department and reported the suspicious drink. The plaintiff said that police responded to the hospital and took the drink for testing at the Utah State Crime Lab.The complaint said that the Utah State Crime Lab confirmed the drink contained a heroin substitute called buprenorphine or Suboxone. Walker's urine also tested positive for Buprenorphine."The drug negatively interacted with Mr. Walker's medication, causing him to lose feeling in his arms and legs, lose the ability to walk, and eventually lose consciousness," the complaint stated.McDonald's is accused in the complaint of failing to preserve the video recording of the drive-thru area where the alleged drink spiking took place, by deleting the video.Walker demanded a trial by jury in the complaint and sought relief for damages caused to him during the incident.The-CNN-Wire 2648

A two-week-old child is dead after the newborn was mauled on Cleveland's west side. A Cleveland Police detective said the child was attacked by a family dog at a home. The infant was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center after a four-year-old German Shepherd got loose from where it was fenced in and bit the baby.The girl did not survive the injuries, dying from head trauma.Cleveland's homicide unit was notified about the attack.The City of Cleveland Kennels responded to the scene and took custody of the dog. 535

A team at the University of Kentucky is researching a possible treatment for COVID-19 and key helpers are three alpacas; Big Boy, Blue Eyes and Emperor.“It’s a powerful technology that we have at UK (University of Kentucky) and it’s something that hopefully we can develop some therapeutics with,” said Wally Whiteheart, a professor in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry.Alpacas, along with llamas and camels, make a special kind of antibody called a nanobody. Nanobodies can be useful in cancer research and for other diseases. Researchers, led by Whiteheart and fellow professor Lou Hersh, are working with a nearby ranch to see what impact alpacas could have on COVID-19.“We, in a sense vaccinate them, and this case with viral proteins, and we make nanobodies to those viral proteins,” explained Whiteheart. “We can then go and purify and identify the nanobodies that bind to the virus and then test them to see if they can inhibit viral infection.”Making the nanobodies is just the first step. The team will see which, if any, can block virus infection and those candidates could move on to clinical trials.There’s still a lot of research and testing to go, and also still a lot of hope.“The cool thing which we’re exploring now is the fact that you might be able to use them as a nasal spray and this actually gets them to the place where the virus is affecting lung tissue,” said Whiteheart.This isn’t the first time the trio of alpacas has helped medical research. Big Boy, Blue Eyes and Emperor have contributed to the university’s nanobody research for more than three years. A middle school teacher and former Miss Kentucky pageant winner has been arrested and charged with sending nude photographs of herself to a 15-year-old boy, authorities said.Ramsey Bearse, a 28-year-old teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School outside Charleston, West Virginia, allegedly sent the photos to a former student, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.The boy's parents found the photos on his phone and told police about them last week. They said their son was a student at Andrew Jackson from 6th to 8th grade and that Bearse was a teacher there during some of that time, according to a criminal complaint.In an interview with police, Bearse admitted to sending at least four photos of her topless via Snapchat from about August to October, the complaint states.She is charged with four counts of distributing obscene materials to a minor, a felony.The former beauty queen has been suspended from her teaching position and was released on a ,000 property bond after her arraignment, the sheriff's office said.Bearse, who competed in pageants under the name Ramsey Carpenter, was named Miss Kentucky in 2014.She won the preliminary talent competition at the national Miss America pageant in Atlantic City for her fiddle performance, CNN affiliate WTVQ reported at the time.
