Mental health has been a big concern for many people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, more than a month into the new school year, doctors are keeping an eye on teenagers and the difficulties they may be facing as the pandemic continues on."Students are still stressed about what's going to happen next, anxious about mixed information they may hear on the news, they may hear on social media, they may hear from their friends in school and they're just trying to figure out what’s going to happen and how long is this going to last and when are things going to get back to normal," says Dr. Christina Conolly, a school psychologist and members of the National Association of School Psychologists.Dr. Conolly says some students are now grappling with anxiety and depression along with the added stress of school.There could be lasting effects on some teenagers who have been isolated for so long."Potentially, I would say not just for teenagers, but for young children and adults, as well. We’ve not experienced an event like this since the pandemic in the early 1900s," says Dr. Conolly.Mental health officials at schools are honing in on children and teens who might be vulnerable and in need of someone to talk to. Dr. Conolly says her school is even launching a new program centered around students' social and emotional wellbeing."In my school district, we have developed student well-being teams at all of our schools. We have referral forms for teachers to go and refer students who are in need of support. We’ve been doing what we call student psychoeducational lessons for all of our students pre-K through 12th grade," says Dr. Conolly.Stress management and mental health is a priority for Parker Pediatrics and Adolescents in Colorado. Pediatrician Dr. Brian Stanga conducts mental health screenings with all patients when they come in for a check-up."We ask them about things like stress level, stress and then if so, how many days a week are they feeling stressed? Is it greatly impacting their quality of life or not greatly impacting their quality of life," says Dr. Stanga.The pediatric practice also has four child and adolescent psychologists on staff. In March, pediatrician visits were down 50% but psychologist visits remained at 100% of normal."One of our core mission statements is we believe in the whole child, whether physical, mental and emotional health. It is all intertwined and that’s pretty clear from a lot of studies. If you're stressed, it elevates your heart rate, your blood pressure, all those things which in then affects your physical health," says Dr. Stanga.So what can parents do to help guide their teens and younger children through this stressful time?"Finding something that you all enjoy that you can do as a family. Talk with each other, have dinner with each other. I know some of these are things people hear and sound a little corny but these are truly things that can help," says Dr. Conolly.Dr. Conolly says educating parents about substance abuse and suicide prevention is also key right now. MCAS MIRAMAR (KGTV) -- Some Grand Princess passengers quarantined at MCAS Miramar say, what the President said in his address Friday about the quality care on base, is not a reality. According to the San Diego County Public Health department, two female Grand Princess passengers in their 70's have tested positive for the Coronavirus. A quarantined passenger at Miramar told 10News that not only has she not been tested, but the base also seems to be understaffed and chaotic. It was supposed to be a lovely two-week vacation around the Hawaiian Islands. "Another day in paradise… in prison," Karen Lira said.By prison, Lira means, MCAS Miramar. She and her husband Jeff have been there since late Thursday, after eight days of self-quarantine on the Grand Princess cruise ship, floating off the coast of San Francisco. "It was quite the waiting game, which just ramped up everybody's stress," Lira said.She said that stress increased tenfold after the Government diverted their vacation to San Diego. "After we left a ship at five pm, we heard it into a bus, which was a crazy situation and then crammed into a plane. And once we got onto the airport, we were told that there was no pilot for the plane," Lira said. Lira said she was baffled to see President Donald Trump on Friday, address the public on how smooth the transition from the cruise ship to Miramar played out. "We had tremendous success in Oakland, where Vice president Pence did a fantastic job," the President said."It was not smooth. It wasn't a beautiful operation," Lira responded. When they finally got to their room on base around 2 a.m. Friday, they were given a welcome note. It explained that food would be delivered to their rooms three times a day. They were advised to always wear a mask, when they stepped out of their rooms. They were also told to keep a six-foot distance from each other at all times."People found out there was food in another building, and people were going a little crazy," Lira said. "Social distancing, wear masks, stay six feet apart from each other. That went out the window immediately when we got off the ship."Lira said she wants the public to know the truth about their situation. So far, they have not been tested. They haven't even got their temperature taken since arriving in Miramar. She is hoping the situation gets better, so she can get back to Oregon, virus-free."If we are not tested any day soon, when is the clock going to start ticking? We are going to be let out of here?" Lira asked. So far, Lira and her husband are feeling healthy. At this point, they want to get tested, so that a negative result can finally get them home to Oregon. MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Michigan model for American Girl Dolls is opening up about her health. Alyea Rourke, who has modeled as the Hawaiian American Girl doll Nanea Mitchell, says she's been diagnosed with a disease so rare it took nearly two years to diagnose."It seemed like a giant dream to me. I was just so scared I immediately thought I will never be able to skate again," the now 14-year-old said.Alyea was diagnosed with chronic recurrent multi-focal osteomyelitis (CRMO), a potentially serious and unique form of bone disease that can be long-lasting. Right now, there's no known cure, doctors say. "They described to us was possibly an ear issue, or it was an infection in the jaw or it could’ve been a tooth decay or something like that. MEDINA, Ohio — Police believe the potential active shooter situation at Cleveland Clinic-Medina Hospital was a hoax. The all-clear was given around 3:30 p.m.Medina police chief Edward Kinney said they got a call at 1:30 p.m. that there was a woman with a gun in a medical building next to the hospital. Police secured the hospital and searched the facility floor-by-floor. Kinney said they believe it was a hoax and they are trying to find the person responsible. He said the individual will face arrest and prosecution. They had 150 law enforcement officers at the scene. Police asked that the public avoid the hospital until police gave the all clear. The Cleveland Clinic tweeted out about the situation at 2:23 p.m.: 763
