SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – At least 10 people were arrested during demonstrations in downtown San Diego Wednesday night that were sparked by the grand jury decision in the Breonna Taylor case.ABC 10News learned there were initially two separate protests planned in the downtown area. Eventually, the two groups joined together.Protesters marched through downtown chanting and holding signs demanding justice for Taylor. The demonstration made its way to San Diego Police Department headquarters on Broadway.Shortly after 10 p.m., SDPD tweeted that there were acts of violence and vandalism and declared the protest outside headquarters “an unlawful assembly.”According to the tweet, the crowd was ordered to disperse or face arrest. The warrant used to search her home was connected to a suspect who did not live there, and no drugs were found inside.A grand jury in Louisville on Wednesday decided that no officers will face charges for Taylor's death.Prosecutors argued the two officers who fired at Taylor were justified in using force to protect themselves after they were shot at by Taylor's boyfriend.The officer who fired the fatal shot and another officer who fired his weapon at Taylor face no charges, but former Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison was indicted with three counts of wanton endangerment for firing shots that went through Taylor's apartment and into an adjoining unit.City News Service contributed to this report 2118

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County health officials say 12 new flu-related deaths have been recorded in the last week, as cases also trend upward.The new influenza deaths included a 34-year-old East County woman with an underlying medical condition who died from influenza A, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. This season, there have been 32 deaths in the county related to the flu, compared to 24 deaths at this time last season.The county says 2,292 local lab-confirmed cases were also reported last week. In comparison, only 487 confirmed cases were reported during the same week last year. This season's to-date total sits at 9,919 cases, passing the 9,655 cases reported all of last season.RELATED: Influenza B causing high number of pediatric flu deaths this season“The number of deaths and cases being reported are a sign that influenza is not easing up,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. “Vaccination is the best defense we have against the flu. People who have not gotten immunized should do it now.”County medical experts recommend residents protect themselves against the virus by frequently washing their hands, cleaning commonly touched surfaces and avoiding contact with sick people.The flu vaccine is available at local doctors' offices, pharmacies, and public health centers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is warning drivers that a portion of northbound SR-125 will close Sunday.According to Caltrans, northbound SR-125 will close from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. between SR-905 and Birch Road.The north and southbound shoulder bike lane between SR-905 and Birch Road will also close between the same hours.According to Caltrans, the closure is for the testing of new technology, though the agency didn’t specify what technology it will be testing. 468

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Car owners at a senior community in University City woke up to a messy surprise Tuesday morning. Louise, who asked 10news not to identity her, went to her SUV which was parked on Kantor Street, and her heart sank."I walked to my car and saw that the window had been burst.  It was terrifying," said Louise.Glass was everywhere and inside her vehicle was another mess.  Her glove compartment had been tossed, her insurance and registration scattered.  Nothing was missing, but Louise is nervous."Very afraid of the personal information now they know what address I'm actually at," said Louise.It appears someone took a bat or something like that to bash the window, before unlocking their passenger door.  Louise is not the only victim.  Nearby there were more vehicles hit, some 14 in all.  The windows on those vehicles were also shattered.  Some items were stolen and the repairs will cost hundreds of dollars for each incident."A lot of people on fixed incomes.
