There's a new app out there that's promises to help people check for skin cancer. It's called Miiskin. It's the first app to use artificial intelligence to do full-body skin mapping. It also uses augmented reality to track how moles, freckles and skin change over time.Doctors say apps like these can actually help during this pandemic.“That has led to a significant decrease in visits for screening such as colon cancer, lung cancer, and skin cancer is of course one of those that actually is affected by the pandemic,” said Dr. Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla with Cancer Treatment Centers of America. When doctors and patients are dealing with cancer, time is of the essence.Tools like this app don't replace doctor's visits, but they can help with early detection.“One month of losing a cancer that was just newly found is almost a 10% increase in mortality, so if the screening comes a year later when the cancer is already starting, then we are in a pretty dark situation,” said Loaiza-Bonilla.Doctors at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America say that while the apps shouldn't replace a full physical assessment, they can be used as an additional tool to track new moles and see how certain things develop. If you are at a higher risk for skin cancer and want to use one of these apps, it's important that you do so under doctor supervision. These apps are still not considered a medical device.Doctors hope these tools can eventually be paired with medical records, so patients can be empowered by knowing more about their own health. 1537

To save eagles, some hunters have stopped using lead ammunition. The Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery has seen an increase in the amount of eagles and other birds coming in with lead poisoning. So far this year, nine eagles have been treated at the center; only three remain alive after intense treatments. This sights of this iconic bird being poisoned by lead-based ammo has some hunters thinking twice before buying lead.Kent Walton is an avid hunter who lives in Papillion, Nebraska. He said he's been hunting his whole life and will not buy lead-based ammo because of its affects on these birds."I made the switch to non-toxic shot, steel, tungsten, bismuth and those types of things, and that's what I use now in the field," he said. Many hunters said they chose lead because it's cheaper, and because they believe it makes their shot more accurate. Walton disagrees: "I don't see any difference in performance."This mission tugs at Walton's heartstrings because he also helps bring birds into Raptor Recovery when they are sick or injured. "It's not pretty," he said. "It's very sick, and it takes a lot to get them back on their feet, if you can."Walton hopes other hunters will take his lead."If you love to see the eagles soaring overhead and you love the fact they are coming back to Nebraska, there's more and more nests here then there were last year," he said. "That's why you should care: It's bringing them back and keeping them from getting that lead positioning." 1512

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — The Trump administration plans to lift endangered species protections for gray wolves across most of the nation by the end of the year. “We’re working hard to have this done by the end of the year and I’d say it’s very imminent,” Aurelia Skipwith, the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday.More than 6,000 wolves now roam portions of the western Great Lakes and northern Rocky Mountains. The Fish and Wildlife Service last year proposed dropping the wolf from the endangered list in the lower 48 states, exempting a small population of Mexican wolves in the Southwest. It was the latest of numerous attempts to return management authority to the states — moves that courts have repeatedly rejected after opponents filed lawsuits.Director Skipwith told The Associated Press in a phone interview that the administration also is pushing ahead with a rollback of protections for migratory birds despite a recent setback in federal court. 1033

Thursday is World UFO Day.The holiday is a day for the UFO community to come together to celebrate their beliefs in extra-terrestrials, according WorldUFODay.com. The website says the day is also used to encourage governments to declassify their knowledge about sightings.People can recognize the day by watching UFO movies and chatting with friends about the possibility of alien life.“The most important thing is that people collectively open their minds to the subject for one day and send out the message mentally that UFOs are welcome on this earth,” the website says. One popular topic among UFO enthusiasts is Area 51, where conspiracy theorists believe the U.S. government stores and hides alien bodies and UFOs.The U.S. government's official name for Area 51 is the Nevada Test and Training Range, which is a unit of the Nellis Air Force Base. Today, it’s used as an open training range for the Air Force.Just a few months ago, the Pentagon actually declassified three previously leaked top-secret U.S. Navy videos in an effort “to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that had been circulating was real or whether or not there is more to the videos,” Pentagon spokesperson Susan Gough said.Gough added that the “aerial phenomena” in the videos remains characterized as “unidentified.”The National UFO Reporting Center, which maintains statistics about global UFO sightings, says there were just over 3,700 reported sightings in 2018 and more than 6,800 in 2019. So far in 2020, nearly 4,700 UFO sightings have been reported. The center’s data shows an uptick in the amount of UFO sightings reported over the past 30 years.Happy #UFOday! The National UFO Reporting Center reports that sightings are on the rise with 3,700 in 2018 and 6,889 in 2019. There have been 4,688 so far in 2020 but still no clear pictures despite everyone carrying amazing cameras... #iwantobelieve https://t.co/CYBoiOsGcf pic.twitter.com/tKsMbIgm13— Statista (@StatistaCharts) July 2, 2020 CNN contributed to this report. 2047
