BLOOMINGTON — The mother of an Indiana University football player who is battling COVID-19 wants everyone to realize the importance of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.Brady Feeney is a freshman offensive lineman for the Hooisers from St. Louis. His mother, Debbie Rucker, took to Facebook Monday with a plea: Take COVID-19 seriously, wear a mask and exercise social distancing.Feeney is battling the virus as questions remain on whether the college football season will be played this fall. The Big Ten announced it plans on playing a conference-only schedule this fall. With her son's permission, Rucker shared his story:My son was negative when he got tested at the beginning of volunteer workouts. Within three weeks he and multiple others tested positive. His university has done everything right by shutting down workouts and retesting the whole team.Unfortunately this virus hit my son very hard compared to most of his teammates. Here was a kid in perfect health, great physical condition and due to the virus ended up going to the ER because of breathing issues. After 14 days of hell battling the horrible virus, his school did additional testing on all those that were positive. My son even received extra tests because he was one of the worst cases. Now we are dealing with possible heart issues! He is still experiencing additional symptoms and his blood work is indicating additional problems. Bottom line, even if your son’s schools do everything right to protect them, they CAN’T PROTECT THEM!!I pray my son recovers from this horrible virus and can lead a healthy normal life!! Football does not really matter when your child’s health is in jeopardy!! Think about it!!! My heart is hurting and I pray for all of these kids and for the people making the decisions about the season!!!Please protect all of those around you and please wear a mask!!! Thank you for listening!!Message from Debbis Rucker, mother of IU football player Brady FeeneyThis article was written by Tom Maccabe for WRTV. 2029

BEVERLY HILLS (CNS) - Three-time Grammy-nominated rapper Offset was detained by Beverly Hills police Saturday during the weekly pro-Trump demonstration and released, while wife Cardi B's cousin was arrested on concealed weapon charges.Offset, aka Kiari Kendrell Cepus, livestreamed his police dealings on Instagram just after 5 p.m.He is seen telling officers he won't put up his hands "because you got guns out. TMZ reported he was placed in handcuffs. But Offset was not arrested, Beverly Hills police Sgt. A. Alatorre told City News Service. "We made an arrest but it was not him," she said.Alatorre said that Marcelo Almanzar was arrested for suspicion of possession of a loaded concealed weapon. She confirmed the incident was in and around the weekly pro-Trump rally that starts and finishes at the Beverly Hills sign in Beverly Gardens Park, at 9439 Santa Monica Blvd.More details were released by police Lt. BERLIN (AP) — The alarming surge in coronavirus cases in Europe and the U.S. is wiping out months of progress against the scourge on two continents, prompting new business restrictions, raising the threat of another round of large-scale lockdowns and sending a shudder through financial markets.“We are deep in the second wave,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Wednesday. “I think that this year’s Christmas will be a different Christmas.”Chancellor Angela Merkel says German officials have agreed to a four-week shutdown of restaurants, bars, cinemas, theaters and other leisure facilities in a bid to curb a sharp rise in coronavirus infections. Merkel and the country’s 16 state governors agreed on the partial lockdown in a videoconference on Wednesday. It is set to take effect on Monday and last until the end of November. Merkel said, “We must act, and now, to avoid an acute national health emergency.” Shops and schools are to remain open, unlike during Germany’s shutdown during the first phase of the pandemic in March and April. Restaurants will be able to provide take-out food.French President Emmanuel Macron announced a nationwide lockdown in a televised address Wednesday, with 58% of the country’s intensive care units now occupied by COVID-19 patients. The lockdown in France will begin Friday, however Macron said schools will remain open.French military and commercial planes are ferrying critically ill virus patients to other regions as hospitals fill up and French doctors have called on the government to impose a new nationwide lockdown.France reported 288 new virus-related deaths in hospitals in 24 hours Tuesday and 235 deaths in nursing homes over the previous four days. Both figures marked the biggest such rise since May.“(France has been) overpowered by a second wave,” Macron said in a national televised address Wednesday.“Nothing is more important than human life,” he added, noting that France has one of the biggest coronavirus rates in Europe currently.Countries such as Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria and Greece have closed or otherwise clamped down again on bars and restaurants and imposed other restrictions such as curfews and mandatory mask-wearing.The setback is especially dispiriting in Europe, which after a devastatingly lethal spring seemed to have beaten back the virus over the summer and was seen as an example of what the U.S. could accomplish. The virus is blamed for more than 250,000 deaths in Europe and about 227,000 in the U.S., according to the count kept by Johns Hopkins University.More than 2 million new confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported globally in the past week, the World Health Organization said. That is the shortest time ever for such an increase. Forty-six percent of the new cases were reported in Europe. 2821
