TOKYO, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting China's special representative on Korean Peninsula affairs Wu Dawei said Tuesday that Beijing plans to put forward fresh measures to resume the stalled six-party talks at an early date.Wu made the comment to reporters after meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, but he did not elaborate on what measures China will propose to bring Pyongyang back to the negotiation, which have been suspended since December 2009.Wu, who chairs the six-party talks involving Democratic People' s Republic of Korea and South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States, said China needs to discuss the proposal with these member states and wants to hear their views about it.The Chinese envoy held talks with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku after meeting with Okada.The Japanese side agreed with China that the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula are in the interest of all parties concerned, and vowed to continue push forward the six-party talks. Both sides said they will work to restart the stalled negotiation as soon as possible.Wu arrived in Tokyo on Saturday for a four-day visit to Japan after visiting Pyongyang and Seoul.
PYONGYANG, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of senior Chinese military officers watched the "Arirang" performance here Saturday night as part of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the entry of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) into the Korean War front.The delegation, led by Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, is on a four-day visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). They were joined at the show by Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK.Before the show, Guo met Kim and a number of other DPRK leaders, including Choe Yong Rim, premier of the cabinet, and Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission.Guo hailed the DPRK's attention to its relations with China. He said the visit of the delegation was to implement the important consensus reached between Chinese President Hu Jintao and the DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il.China would work with the DPRK side to make an active contribution to the continuous promotion of the Sino-DPRK friendship, Guo said.Kim Yong Nam warmly welcomed the visit of the Chinese delegation.The DPRK cherished its friendship with China. BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares advanced to a five-month high Friday on the gains of gold producers and nonferrous metals.The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 3.13 percent, or 83.09points, to close at 2,738.74.The Shenzhen Component Index gained 3.86 percent, or 442.83 points, to end at 11,911.37.Combined turnover stood at 283.42 billion yuan (42.43 billion U.S. dollars), up from 183 billion yuan the previous trading day.Gainers outnumbered losers by 814 to 41 in Shanghai and 1,025 to 47 in Shenzhen.Most Chinese stocks proved resilient Friday after the stock markets were closed from Oct. 1 to 7 for the annual National Day holiday.Gold producers rallied Friday after international gold prices hit a record during the Chinese holiday as investors sought an alternative investment to the U.S. dollar, which slid to an eight-month low against the euro on Thursday.Zijin Mining Group, China's largest gold producer, surged by the 10- percent daily trading limit to end at 8 yuan per share. FUZHOU, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of thousands of residents have been evacuated as Megi, the 13th typhoon to hit China this year, made landfall in Zhangzhou City in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.As of 2 p.m., 272,300 people have been evacuated, according to officials at the provincial department of civil affairs.Also, there was no immediate report of casualties in Fujian. JINAN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has called on authorities to give more support to the country's major grain production areas so to ensure grain supply and security.Hui made the comments while attending a grain production seminar held in Yantai City of east China's Shandong Province on Friday and Saturday.The vice premier demanded efforts be undertaken to promote agricultural production in the country's major grain production areas, which he said were of great importance to China's agricultural development.Hui urged authorities to offer financial assistance to these areas and ensure the continuous increase of farmers' incomes.China was facing and would be confronted by increasing challenges in grain production, such as the challenge to meet market demand for agricultural products and ensure quality, Hui said.To address these challenges, he said China must improve support to farmers to increase their enthusiasm for growing grain.Efforts should also go to improving production capacity in the agriculture sector, promoting agricultural technology progress and accelerating agricultural reform, the vice premier said.During the rest of the year, relative authorities should focus on improving agricultural production management and disaster prevention to guarantee a bumper autumn grain harvest, as well as ensuring market supplies and price stabilization of commodities such as vegetable, meat, grain and edible oil, he said.
