Experts say a scammer cloning a phone number can happen to anyone and a Nebraska woman says her number is being used to try and solicit others.Caller ID "spoofing" is used to disguise someone's identity and is usually to trick a person into giving away personal information for criminal activity, or money. Now, many in Omaha are seeing local numbers including the same prefix show up on a call.Evy Akpan says recently she was receiving multiple calls a day from people who said she had called them several times when she hadn't called them at all."If I'm trying to live my life, and I'm getting phone calls throughout the day, and my phone is constantly ringing for a scam purpose, it's frustrating," Akpan said. "And also just receiving these voicemails of upset people chewing me a new one, and I'm like, 'I'm not calling you!' "The Better Business Bureau of Nebraska, SW Iowa, South Dakota, and Great Plains Kansas said scammers usually only clone a person's number for 24-48 hours then move on to new ones. The Federal Communications Commission says it's best not to pick up a call from an unknown number because if you do, criminals will know your number is active."Really, it's important not to trust the caller ID. The fact that it says it's coming from an area code that we're not familiar with doesn't really mean anything these days," said Jim Hegarty, CEO of the BBB Nebraska.The FCC adds that if your number's been spoofed, there's not much you can do other than change your voicemail to let people know of the situation. 1557

FAIRBORN, Ohio — A 911 call during a regularly-scheduled installation exercise prompted a lockdown at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on Thursday.According to the base's Twitter account, officials were executing an active shooter training exercise in Area A of the base on Thursday when an "unknown individual" called 911, fearing the training was real. The call prompted a security sweep of the base and a lockdown call.Later, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base later clarified that there was never a "real world" active shooter on the base.  558

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Video from a witness shows a driver slamming into a crowd outside an Encinitas bar early Sunday morning. In the video, a U-Haul van can be seen accelerating onto a sidewalk. Video shows pedestrians leaping out of the way before the vehicle crashes into the crowd. In a Monday news release, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said one person is in an intensive care unit while another is undergoing surgery with serious injuries following the crash. The department says a 24-year-old victim is in an intensive care unit while a 25-year-old is in surgery with serious injuries. All three of the victims were struck when the suspect, Christian Davis, 28, reportedly drove the van onto a sidewalk outside The Saloon Bar around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Two others received minor injuries when they detained Davis outside the bar. Deputies say Davis was asked to leave the bar because he was too intoxicated. After complying with the request, deputies say Davis got into the van, intentionally driving it onto the sidewalk. Davis was later arrested and is being charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted escape with force. Davis is scheduled to be arraigned in Vista on March 3. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) - A man has been arrested in connection with the Fallsbrea fire that broke out in Fallbrook on Sunday, according to the San Diego Sheriff's department.The brush fire started in the area of Ramona Drive and Pala Road around 12:15 p.m.When a deputy arrived on scene to investigate the smoke, the deputy saw a white man walking away from what appeared to be the point of origin of the fire, a press release states. The man was identified as 34-year-old Brad Arands.Arands was disheveled and his behavior was suspicious, deputies said. Arands was detained until the fire was controlled and a further investigation could be conducted.The fire burned approximately five acres and threatened numerous homes. One outbuilding was destroyed. The fire was 100 percent contained by about 4 p.m. Arands was arrested on suspicion of felony arson and booked at the Vista Detention Facility.   950
