BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) here on Monday called for China and Europe to further promote common development.Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the first-ever China-Europe High-Level Political Party Forum in Beijing.China and Europe's common interests have increased to an unprecedented level in a new era of great development, change and adjustment, Li said, putting forth a four-point proposal to further strengthen China-Europe party to party dialogue and to seek common development. Li Changchun (1st L), a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, addresses the China-Europe High-Level Political Parties Forum in Beijing, China, May 24, 2010. Chinese officials from the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Commerce, the National Development and Reform Committee as well as over 50 leaders and senior officials from various European political parties attended the opening ceremony.

TASHKENT, April 24 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to consolidate cooperation with all the other member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on safeguarding regional security and promoting collective prosperity, Chinese Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu said here Friday.Meng, also a Chinese State Councilor, made the remarks at the fifth session of the SCO Security Council Secretaries, which drew interior and public security ministers of SCO member states to prepare for a June summit of the organization in Tashkent.The SCO, a regional security organization founded in 2001, consists of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.Meng said that against the backdrop of complicated global and regional situations, it is important for SCO countries to deepen practical cooperation and safeguard regional stability by further coordinating cooperative mechanisms within the SCO framework.It was also important to seek collaboration and utilize various resources, he said.Meng noted the lingering effects triggered by the global financial crisis on economy and society, as well as the continuing threats from terrorism, extremism and separatism on regional security. He said that SCO members all face the heavy tasks of maintaining national security and social stability.The SCO interior and public security ministers also exchanged views on issues including the fight against Internet terrorism, illegal arms dealing, drug trafficking and protection of gas and oil pipelines.

BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua)-- China and the United States held the first high-level dialogue between their main political parties in Beijing Wednesday.Senior Chinese officials and representatives of a delegation of the U.S. Democratic and Republican parties took part.Addressing the dialogue, Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said the political parties and statesmen of China and the United States should transcend differences of ideology, social systems and cultural traditions and abandon prejudice, so as to continuously strengthen strategic mutual trust and promote the healthy, stable, and long-term development of bilateral ties.To build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship for the 21st century, it was important for both sides to deal with bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective, respect each other's roads of development, take each other's core interests and major concerns into consideration and avoid repeated disturbances and harm to cooperation, said Wang.Wang also introduced China's party system, the CPC's governance theory and expounded China's position on China-U.S. relations and related international affairs.

TAIPEI, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Luo Qingquan, Communist Party of China (CPC) chief in central China's Hubei Province, left Taiwan Monday with a one-thousand-strong delegation after an eight-day visit to the island, expressing confidence in the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations."The visit was very smooth and fruitful... I'm expecting Hubei and Taiwan to carry out more exchanges and boost cooperation," Luo said as he departed the island.Luo's delegation arrived here on April 19 for a Hubei-Taiwan cultural festival filled with exhibitions, forums and performances featuring Hubei culture.Luo said the two regions reached a consensus on exchange and cooperation in economic, scientific, technological and cultural fields.He noted Taiwan's advanced farm-products processing technology could be well applied in Hubei, a province rich in agriculture.During the trip, the delegation also visited medium- and small-sized companies, farm and schools in Taipei, Taichung, Yunlin and Hsinchu.The Hubei-Taiwan festival has been held in Hubei's capital Wuhan six times since 2004. It was the first time the event was held on the island.The Chinese mainland and Taiwan have been recently intensifying their exchanges, especially high-level visits to the island by mainland delegations, which is seen as a sign of increasingly solid relations.Earlier this month, a municipal government delegation of about 260 people headed by Shanghai mayor Han Zheng visited the island to promote the upcoming Shanghai World Expo.During the trip, several Shanghai companies and Taiwanese counterparts signed 28 agreements on long-term exchanges and short-term purchases, along with agreements on investments in finance, chemical materials, steel, tourism, intellectual property rights and farm products, among others.
