NEW YORK CITY — An Arizona man is dead after jumping out of a freezer at a New York City restaurant and charging at an employee with a knife.Police identified the man as 54-year-old Carlton Henderson of Cave Creek, Arizona.Police say on Sunday an employee at Sarabeth's restaurant in New York City opened the freezer door, and Henderson allegedly ran out screaming, "Away from me, Satan!"The restaurant worker was able to calm the man down but the man went into cardiac arrest and later died at an Upper West Side hospital.No one else in the eatery was injured. 585
NEW YORK (AP) — Carl Reiner, the ingenious and versatile writer, actor and director who broke through as a “second banana” to Sid Caesar and rose to comedy’s front ranks as the creator of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and straight man to Mel Brooks’ “2000 Year Old Man,” has died. He was 98.Reiner’s assistant Judy Nagy said he died Monday night of natural causes his home in Beverly Hills, California.He was one of show business’ best-liked men, the tall, bald Reiner was a welcome face on the small and silver screens, in Caesar’s 1950s troupe, as the snarling, toupee-wearing Alan Brady of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and in such films as “The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming” and “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.”In recent years, he was part of the roguish gang in the “Ocean’s Eleven” movies starring George Clooney and appeared in documentaries including “Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age” and “If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast.”Films he directed included “Oh, God!” starring George Burns and John Denver; “All of Me,” with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin; and the 1970 comedy “Where’s Poppa?” He was especially proud of his books, including “Enter Laughing,” an autobiographical novel later adapted into a film and Broadway show; and “My Anecdotal Life,” a memoir published in 2003. NEW YORK – A New York City police officer was among the several people arrested in connection to a drug trafficking bust, officials announced Monday.NYPD officer Amaury Abreu and two other men, Julia Bautista and Gustavo Valerio, are accused of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine.The three men were allegedly members of a multinational drug trafficking organization with distributors in the New York area and the Dominican Republic between January 2016 and October 2020.Bautista, 35, and Valerio, 38, were high-ranking members of the organization based in New York and were responsible for distributing and overseeing the distribution of cocaine once it was in New York, according to the federal complaint.Abreu, 34, allegedly used his position as a police officer and provided information about law enforcement procedures, performing warrant checks on DTO members, on at least one instance, distributed cocaine for the group.Officials said Abreu pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a million bond with home detention as a condition of the bond.Two other men face changes in connection to the bust. Cesar Diaz-Bautista, 43, faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, while Junior Ortiz, 29, faces charges of cocaine importation conspiracy.Ortiz was released on a 0,000 bond and Diaz-Bautista will be released on a 0,000 bond, officials said.The other two defendants had not yet been arraigned Monday.Since 2016, law enforcement agents have seized more than 350 kilograms of cocaine belonging to the DTO.“This criminal network allegedly trafficked more than 350 kilos of cocaine and was assisted by an NYPD officer, who used his knowledge and access to help them stay one step ahead of the law,” stated District Attorney Madeline Singas.“There is no place for corruption in the NYPD and it will always be prosecuted fully. Scholastic says Cole, a resident of Sioux City, Iowa, died Sunday. With the ever maddening but inspired Ms. Frizzle leading her students on journeys that explored everything from the solar system to underwater, “Magic School Bus” books have sold tens of millions of copies and were the basis for a popular animated TV series and a Netflix series. Ms. Frizzle was based in part on a teacher Cole had growing up. Plans for a live-action movie, with Elizabeth Banks as Ms. Frizzle, were recently announced. 675
