WESTLAKE VILLAGE (CNS) - Westlake Village-based Guitar Center, the country's largest retailer of instruments and musical equipment, joined a growing list of companies impacted by the economic toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, filing for bankruptcy, according to a report Sunday.Guitar Center has about 300 stores across the U.S., and its sister brands include Music & Arts, which has more than 200 stores specializing in band and orchestral instruments for sale and rent, according to the Los Angeles Times.The filing in the Eastern District of Virginia gives the company a break on its debts by letting it stay in business as it seeks to carry out a restructuring plan, the Times reported.According to the report, a restructuring support agreement announced Nov. 13 requires new financing backed by existing creditors, in addition to 5 million in new equity investments from its parent company, Ares Management Corp., as well as the Carlyle Group and Brigade Capital Management.Moody's Investor Service explained that the coronavirus shutdown has hit nonessential retailers hard, and that Guitar Center was particularly vulnerable because musical instruments are highly discretionary item. The company's stores were shut down in mid-March when the pandemic began in earnest. When a Minnesota teacher learned that her school's custodian was in dire need of a new kidney, she didn't hesitate to step up to the plate.According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune and CNN, teacher Erin Durga and custodian Part Mertens have been co-workers at Kimball Elementary School in Kimball, Minnesota, for nine years.The two were well acquainted — they often exchanged pleasantries in the hall, and Durga's children attended a daycare ran by Merten's wife.Recently, Mertens had been leaving school early three days a week to attend dialysis treatments. Earlier this year, the school organized a "Hats for Pat" fundraiser to help pay for his treatments. But school officials didn't realize how dire Mertens' situation was until his daughter posted a plea for help on Facebook.According to Mertens' daughter, Kayla Matten, none of her fathers' relatives was a match for a kidney transplant."We are now in the process of trying to find someone with an O blood type and someone who is willing to donate their kidney," she wrote, according to CNN.When Durga saw the post, she didn't hesitate. WISCONSIN — A 19-year-old man has been charged with two felonies after police say he gave a gun to Kyle Rittenhouse the night two protesters were killed in Kenosha.Prosecutors say Dominick Black purchased the weapon from the Ladysmith Ace Home Center using money he received from 17-year-old Rittenhouse. Police say Black bought the weapon for Rittenhouse because he wasn't 18-years-old yet and couldn't do it himself.Black and Rittenhouse agreed that the rifle would be stored at Black's stepdad's house since Rittenhouse did not have an Illinois Firearm Owner Identification card, according to the criminal complaint. Black's stepdad lives in Kenosha.On Aug. 23, Jacob Blake was shot in the back several times by Kenosha police. The following days were then full of protests and unrest in Kenosha.According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 25, Rittenhouse and Black volunteered to protect the Car Source located on Sheridan Road. The two met at Black's stepdad's house where Black gave Rittenhouse the gun he had purchased, a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle.Around 11:49 p.m. that night, Rittenhouse used the gun to allegedly shoot and kill two individuals, Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber.
