SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego county father is speaking out about his family's close call caught on video during an off-road race down in Baja, but the driver behind the wheel says it's not what it looks like. Earlier in April, Matt Scarpuzzi of Alpine and hundreds of other drivers were participating in the "San Felipe 250" when he says another driver deliberately drove through a group of spectators, including his wife and two young children. In this type of racing drivers can deviate from the set course as long as they make it to the checkpoints, so technically it wasn't against the rules."I couldn't believe that was the best decision, in my opinion, it jeopardizes the fan safety and it jeopardizes a sport that I love," said Scarpuzzi.The man behind the wheel, B-J Baldwin, spoke to 10News and said it looks worse than it actually was.  "I had 100 percent visibility, I knew where everybody was at, knew everybody was safe. Again I was only going about 2 miles an hour when I drove through these tents," Baldwin said. He posted the video on his Facebook page and offered to replace anything he damaged. "I assured everybody that no one was in danger and I was very very careful when trying to re-enter the course and access the course," said Baldwin.  1317

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A non-profit and business owner came together to donate thousands of dollars to families in need during the pandemic Wednesday.Non-profit Black San Diego started up in September with the goal of bolstering Black-owned businesses and giving them tools to succeed.They have a Facebook page with 36,000 members.On December 19th, Porschia Wyatt posted asking for prayers for her family."Recently my husband was laid off from his job, he works for the Cheesecake Factory, so time’s been hard for me and my family," she said.She and her husband have a 15-year-old daughter, 7 and 8-year-old sons and a 20-month old daughter.Getting Christmas presents was going to be hard, and November 16th made it even more difficult."I had just ate pizza and next thing you know I started throwing up and I couldn’t breath or anything so I was rushed to the hospital," she said she had an abdominal blockage.She underwent three surgeries and came home on the 25th. Now she had huge medical bills to worry about, which was what pushed her to type a message to the BSD community.She got an overwhelming response, more than a hundred comments and a surprise at her doorstep Wednesday morning.Jaime Harris, owner of Big Block Realty, was holding a giant check for ,000."There are so many families that are affected you know? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego commuter is saving big by getting on a bike, but not breaking much of a sweat.It was 6 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, when 10News caught up with Jon Taddeo as he prepared to bike to work.  This ride would be powered by a little something extra, in the form of an electric motor. Taddeo bought an electric bike in October."I feel like a fast biker," said Taddeo.Pedaling more will cause the motor to kick in when he needs it.  For Taddeo, it's a big difference compared to riding a pedal bike."17 miles per hour up a hill.  Before it was four or five miles per hour, huffing and puffing," said Taddeo.That means arriving at work less tired and sweaty.  Long popular in Europe and Asia, e-biking has surged in popularity in the U.S. in the past few years.Taddeo's commute from Carmel Valley to Miramar College took about 30 minutes, only a few minutes slower than his average drive."I feel good.  Blood flowing, refreshed and ready to work," said Taddeo.He also feels pretty good about his savings.  Before, he spent about 0 a month on gas for his commute.  That's now down to pennies, basically the cost of charging the motor battery."It'll definitely go a long way. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego man is million richer Friday after purchasing a lottery ticket in Talmadge.Teven Lam recently bought a scratcher at the 7-Eleven located at 4745 El Cajon Blvd. Upon revealing the numbers on his "50X the Cash" ticket, he learned he had become an instant millionaire.”I can’t believe [my] luck!” Lam told lottery officials. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A preliminary 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck in Inyo County, just north of Ridgecrest, on Wednesday.The quake occurred at about 10:40 a.m. in the Lone Pine area, about 60 miles north of Ridgecrest, according to the USGS. There have not been any immediate reports of injury or damage.The initial 5.8 earthquake was followed by several smaller shake-ups, ranging from magnitude 2.5 to 4.6.USGS's "Did You Feel It?" map reported the quake was felt as far away as Fresno to the north, Los Angeles to the south, and Las Vegas, Nev., to the east. There was no threat of a tsunami due to the quake, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center.The earthquake comes a day after a 7.5-magnitude quake struck Mexico's southern coastline, just east of the popular tourist destination Huatulco, Oaxaca. 822
