BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- China's largest gold producer said on Tuesday its operating profits rose by three fold to 1.55 billion yuan (228.09 million U.S. dollars) in the first six months this year.China National Gold Group Corp. said in a statement that its first-half revenue grew by 98 percent from a year earlier to 27.67 billion yuan and expected its full-year revenue to reach 50 billion yuan.At the end of June, the gold producer had 1,250 tonnes of gold reserves, eight million tonnes of copper reserves and 1.6 million tonnes of molybdenum, according to the statement.In the first half of 2010, the company added a total of 24.7 tonnes of gold, 683,000 tonnes of copper and 445,000 tonnes of molybdenum to its reserves, said the statement.The company had improved its development strategies through conducting merge and acquisitions, integrating regional resources and exploring overseas, said Sun Zhaoxue, general manager of the gold producer.

HARARE, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary-General Sindiso Ngwenya on Tuesday urged China to enter into joint ventures with Africa's largest regional trading and economic grouping to capitalize on the customs union that was launched last year.The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, boasting 19 member states and a population of more than 450 million, is endowed with vast natural and human resources that make it a fertile investment destination, Ngwenya said."With a combined population of 456 million and a combined Gross Domestic Product of 450 billion U.S. dollars, this region is very rich in natural resources, rich in human resources and land for agriculture."This region will therefore become the region of first choice for investment and has the potential to feed the whole world," Ngwenya told Xinhua in an interview.He said China should take COMESA as its preferred investment destination and increase trade with Africa's largest trading and economic grouping.Ngwenya has previously urged more Chinese investment in the manufacturing sector so that Africa can move up the value chain and increase the incomes of its people while ensuring that less wealth is exported abroad.Trade between COMESA countries and China has also been growing by between 50 percent and 100 percent depending on the country, but on average by more than 50 percent annually and by the end of 2008 China-Africa trade was approaching the 100 billion U.S. dollars, according to Ngwenya.Ngwenya said the COMESA Customs Union presented immense opportunities for the Asian giant to deepen and consolidate economic cooperation with member states, most of whom it had strong bilateral, economic and political ties with. BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Food, clothing and shelter supplies for the mudslide-affected people in Zhouqu County in northwest China's Gansu Province are to be properly handled, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Tuesday.The affected people will be helped by the government to reconstruct their homes, the ministry said in a statement.China's Ministry of Finance has allocated 500 million yuan (73 million U.S. dollars) for emergency aid to fund the relief efforts.The statement said the resettlement program will be carried out in three stages.The first stage of emergency aid is resettling the affected people in temporary shelters.The second stage is the stopgap resettlement of people in houses of relatives, friends, neighbors as well as rented houses and houses offered by the government.The third stage is reconstruction and the moving of people into their new homes.Efforts should be made to finish reconstruction of toppled houses before winter sets in, or no later than June 2011, the statement said, noting the repair of damaged houses shall be finished by November this year.The ministry will soon flesh out the resettlement program after learning further details of the disaster, an official at the Ministry of Civil Affairs said.The death toll from the massive rain-triggered mudslide in Zhouqu County has risen to 702, with 1,042 others still missing.Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said 7,000 tents, 21,400 cotton quilts, 5,000 folding beds and 5,000 sleeping bags had arrived in Zhouqu.Along with the shelter supplies, instant noodles, drinking water, generators, candles and flashlights have also arrived in the county, with more supplies en route.In addition, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television has transported 10,000 radios and 5,000 televisions and satellite dishes to the affected area to ensure local people know the latest information concerning the rescue and relief efforts.As of 6 p.m. Monday, the Red Cross Society of China and its local branches had offered relief funds and materials worth more than 6 million yuan (about 886,000 U.S. dollars).The organization has called for more donations, asking the public to log on to redcross.org.cn to donate, apart from donating through banks and post offices.The State Council, China's Cabinet, released a circular Tuesday calling for better coordination between local rescue and relief teams.The circular encouraged financial donations from the public for the organized procurement of supplies.It also urged people other than rescue and relief workers to not go to the disaster-hit county.

I am very glad to see that," Niwa told Chinese press in Tokyo.Upon his assignment to China, the Japanese ambassador said China and Japan, as close neighbors, should deal with each other for the upcoming 1,000 or 2,000 years rather than 10 or 20 years. In the long run, both countries share a lot of common interests, and a stable, friendly relationship is the ultimate goal.The former president of Itochu Corp. said that he aimed to boost communication, strengthen economic cooperation, and build on the mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries.Niwa also said in the age of multipolarization, no one can conduct diplomacy with knowledge of China alone. So the relations with South Korea, and the United States are also important.Niwa was appointed by Prime Minister Naoto Kan in June to the key diplomatic post, making him the first ambassador to China from outside the government sector since the two countries normalized ties in 1972. He will leave for Beijing on July 31.
