McDonald's is investing billion into their fast-food chains. Franchises across the country will be getting a new modern, high-tech look. The fast-food mogul says these updates will enhance the guest experience. Not only is it great for business, but it's great for communities. Franchise operator Laura Bucar says in her 40 years of doing business, McDonald's has never invested this much money into it's existing chains. "When we decide to move on anything, what that creates for the community, as far as jobs and resources, is incredible,” says Bucar. In order to create an incredible experience, McDonald's is investing millions of dollars into nearly every state to update their restaurants.“We just finished ours in July, and I can’t tell you how many electricians and plumbers locally that were sourced to come in, and even digital and technical people and so it really adds to the economy,” says Bucar.Each fast food restaurant is able to customize their artwork inside. Bucar is excited to give visibility to local artists. Not only is McDonald's offering jobs in the community for construction workers, but they are also adding a handful of positions inside their restaurants, too. MADISON, Wis. – Donald Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stepien says the president plans to “immediately” request a recount in the battleground state of Wisconsin, which has been called for Joe Biden.With 95% reporting, the Associated Press said Wednesday afternoon that it projects the former vice president will pick up the state’s 10 electoral votes.The AP says it called the state for Biden after election officials in the state said all outstanding ballots had been counted, except for a few hundred in one township and they expected only a small number of provisional ballots.In Wisconsin, if a race is within 1 percentage point, the trailing candidate can force a recount. Statewide recounts in Wisconsin have historically changed the vote tally by only a few hundred votes. Now, many are spending huge amounts of money restructuring the way they operate to keep themselves and their patients safe.On a window ledge at ENT and Allergy Associates in White Plains, New York, sits a number of brown paper bags. Inside, face masks labeled for each physician.“We have paper bags on our window sills with a bunch of masks. In there, we have 3-4-5 masks we’re rotating through. Those have to be kept covered to protect them from splatter or anything because once they get dirty, then they have to be thrown out,” Dr. Daniel Gold said. “We circulate gowns as well.”Gold is an E.N.T., which is the medical and surgical choice for anything having to do with the ears, nose or throat. It's a profession that is very much in your face, so protective gear is of utmost importance.“After wearing them for 5-10 minutes, you get short of breath and you’re like this is really hard,” he said.Doctors like Gold are having a hard time getting more gear. In fact, Dr. Gold often uses shields that are designed for sheet metal work because medical grade equipment is back ordered, or entirely unavailable. A surgical mask which once cost 30 or 40 cents now costs to .50.They've also found that knockoffs are being sold.“Not made of same material, not sealing against the face, and some had seam lines and then when you really looked, you’d realize there were holes through the seam lines that’s not blocking 95%,” Gold said. “You’re better wearing a t-shirt mask.”Dr. Gold is far from alone on this issue. It's a statewide and nationwide problem. Dr.Bonnie Litvack is the president of the Medical Society, State of New York.“That is an absolute mess because we can’t deliver the care if we don’t have the resources and the mask is ground zero for that,” Said Dr. Bonnie Livtack, the president of the Medical Society of the State of New York.When asked about whether they were able to negotiate for price on PPE, Litvack said, “With the various companies they either have it or they don’t, or you pay the prices or you don’t.”Dr. Litvack joined other state medical societies in the country by sending a letter to the Senate. They're asking the government to step in."We urge Congress to prioritize the production, distribution, and availability of PPE and testing, and accelerate efforts to conduct contact tracing,” the letter read. “All of these are essential to the safe reopening of medical practices and the economy and must be prioritized for all health care workers."They're also asking for financial help as their costs to operate, while seeing half the patient volume, are mounting.“These additional precautions and equipment is running us about per patient,” Dr. Gold said. “It’s about a million in extra overhead a month just in these extra masks, and gowns, and gloves and wipes. Now, those worried about suppressed turnout in the upcoming general elections are focused on Kentucky.Voters in the Bluegrass State will vote in primary elections on Tuesday, and the virus has already had a stark impact on the election. In Louisville, the state's largest city, only one polling place has been designated.That polling place will now serve as the only option for in-person voting on Tuesday for an area representing about 600,000 people — including a large portion of the state's Black population.Voters who didn't cast mail-in ballots could face long lines — just as voters in Georgia did earlier this month when dozens of polling stations were closed due to COVID-19. During Georgia's primary, voters waited in line late into the night in Atlanta and Savannah in order to cast their ballots.Kentucky turned to widespread mail-in absentee voting in an agreement between the state's Democratic governor and Republican secretary of state in response to the pandemic. But voters not requesting absentee ballots will have to show up Tuesday.The state's primary, typically in late May, was delayed more than a month.Voters in New York state will also vote in primary elections on Tuesday — days after election officials expressed concern about the state's mail-in voting system to The New York Times.
