Players are expected to return for training camps on July 1.While the MLB announcement did not specify the role of fans, multiple reports suggest the season will begin in empty ballparks with no fans in attendance.To reduce travel, the schedule will include 10 games for each team against its divisional opponents, along with 20 games against the opposite leagues corresponding geographical division.For the San Diego Padres, that will mean 10 games each against the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Colorado Rockies. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County health officials say with the summer months well underway, they've seen an uptick in the number of children that have needed to be rescued from private pools after nearly drowning.Officials say there have been 49 rescues in private pools, beaches, and bays from March through July, compared to 37 in the same period in 2019 and 33 in 2018. Nearly all of those rescued this year have needed to be taken to the hospital for treatment.Of those 49 that occurred this year, 28 were in pools and 14 were in the ocean, lakes, or bays. The rest did not report a specific body of water. Many public pools have been closed since March due to the pandemic."Parents and guardians must take the necessary precautions to keep these incidents from happening," said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer, said. "Children who swim in pools at home are at higher risk of drowning, especially as parents struggle to supervise their children while continuing to work at home through the summer months because of the novel coronavirus."The county says it's important to teach children to swim, never leave a child unsupervised in or near water, avoid alcohol if you're swimming, and learn CPR.At home, the county recommends installing a fence around the pool and hot tub, installing pool alarms, and keeping an eye on drains and pool toys that could be a tripping hazard. 1389

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine rolls out to healthcare workers, at least four have had severe allergic reactions after getting the shot.The cases include two healthcare workers in Alaska and two in the UK. In the UK cases, both individuals carried epipens.“So these were people with a history of severe allergies and not just severe allergies like you got hives, but they had allergies where they encounter certain things in the environment and their body shuts down,” said UC San Francisco infectious disease expert Dr. Peter Chin-Hong.All four have apparently recovered.At this point, doctors aren’t sure what caused the reactions. Generally speaking, allergies when your immune system overreacts to something harmless.Pfizer’s vaccine has 10 ingredients that fit into four categories.The active ingredient is mRNA. These are temporary genetic instructions for your cells to build a small, harmless fragment of the virus’ shell to train your immune system, similar to setting up a punching bag to train a boxer.Then there are fats to stabilize and transport the mRNA, salts to maintain the pH, and sugar to prevent the solution from degrading while freezing.All the ingredients are considered standard.
