But beyond that, the murals can be great for a neighborhood and its businesses.Tracy Weil is midway through his latest project: a 125-foot long mural in Denver’s River North Arts District.Murals like Weil’s do more for a neighborhood than add a splash of color to an otherwise dull brick wall."It can really kind of give an identity to a neighborhood, which I think is pretty fantastic,” says Weil. “If there’s not a lot of people there, not a lot of restaurants, what the murals do is they start to draw people. And they start to draw business."That’s exactly why the events center and nightclub behind the freshly-painted wall hires artists like Weil."I think it’s a great way to bring attention, to not just your specific business maybe, but to a neighborhood, to a region," says Andrew Feinstein, owner of EXDO Events Center and Tracks nightclub. “Regardless of what murals cost, it’s absolutely the right investment."And it’s an investment that's paying off, particularly when it comes to presence on social media. John Beldock, owner of a local motorsport store and body shop, says their mural of Evel Knievel has seen its share of Instagram tags."Branding-wise, it really adds to what people think about us," says Beldock.“It’s exiting to be a part of it; it makes a great selfie or Facebook profile pic or Instagram post,” says Weil. “And people really get into it.” 1631

WILSON, N.C. – The father of a 5-year-old boy who was fatally shot outside his North Carolina home says he cannot understand why someone would want to harm his son.Austin Hinnant told WRAL that his son, Cannon, was playing on his bike in the yard of their Wilson home when he heard a gunshot while inside.Hinnant says he ran outside and found Cannon suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. He scooped his son up in his arms and screamed for someone to help.The father claims he looked up and saw his neighbor, Darius Sessoms, in the yard next door, with a gun in his hand, pacing."I was looking at him as I was picking up Cannon,” Hinnant told WRAL. “I was so full of rage, but I couldn't leave my son's side. I wanted to be with my son."The boy was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died.A warrant was issued for Sessoms and police say he was taken into custody on Monday. The 25-year-old has been charged with 1st degree murder and is being held without bond.Sessoms doesn’t appear to be a stranger to the family. Hinnant says he had Sessoms over for dinner just the night before."I have no idea why he would kill my son in front of his two sisters and his cousin,” Hinnant told WRAL. “I have no idea."Law enforcement has not provided any details regarding a possible motive for Cannon’s murder.A funeral for the little boy was held Thursday. WNCN reports that hundreds gathered at the Shingleton Funeral Home in Wilson to pay their respects, including Cannon’s grandmother, Merrill Race.Race told WNCN that Cannon was “just a kid trying to have fun in his own yard and something like this happens. While students in a South Carolina school participated in the National School Walkout this week, a custodian helped herself to their cash, police said.The incident occurred at Richland Northeast High School on Wednesday.Aisha Evans, a custodian at the school, went into a classroom while students were outside and rummaged through three book bags, the Richland County Sheriff's Department said.In all, Evans stole 0, the department said.The custodian was arrested soon afterward and charged with three counts of petty larceny.Evans, 32, was employed by Service Solutions, an agency that provides custodial services to the district's school.The agency terminated the woman, the school district told CNN affiliate WIS."On Thursday, March 15, Service Solutions notified Richland Two that Evans is no longer an employee of the company and was informed that she cannot come on any Richland Two property," Richland Two School District said in its statement to the affiliate.It's unclear whether Evans has retained a lawyer.The-CNN-Wire 1040

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say a retired firefighter who was upset with a mask ordinance in the city of Wichita, Kansas, has been arrested on suspicion of threatening to kidnap and kill the mayor.The Wichita Eagle reports that police say the 59-year-old suspect could face a charge of criminal threat.Democratic Mayor Brandon Whipple said someone had read him text messages received by another city official that asked about the mayor’s address and threatened his life.Whipple says the suspect talked about tyranny in the messages and was upset about the mask mandates and not being able to see his mother because of coronavirus restrictions.“He said he was going to kidnap me and slash my throat and he needed my address because I needed to see the hangman — me and everyone who, something about tyranny,” said Whipple.The Eagle reports that the mayor has been an online target of anti-mask activists after he pushed for a citywide mask requirement to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.Whipple says he will now have an increased security presence around his home to protect him and his family.The Wichita Police Department told The Eagle that it’s investigating the threats and that no other local officials are believed to have been targeted at this time.This incident comes after law enforcement arrested several men who authorities say plotted to kidnap Michigan Gov.
