SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The purple most restrictive tier for coronavirus guidelines goes into effect Saturday forcing many museums around San Diego County to close their doors once again."It really wasn't a surprise and when this all first started happening I think we realized that there wasn't going to be a magic date that everything was going to be better," James Haddan, Senior Director of Development and External Communications at the Museum of Us, said they've been anticipating the county's fall back into the purple tier."We made some hard choices initially, right away," Haddan said they made difficult cuts to staff at the beginning of the pandemic, hoping to sustain for the next two years."It has been extremely difficult for arts and cultural organizations throughout the city and Balboa Park would be no different," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said while many of the museums must close, there are still things to do at the park. The Japanese Friendship Garden, Spanish Village, and restaurants are open.In La Jolla, the Birch Aquarium is shifting too. They reopened in July and are creating as many exhibits as they can outside. (Here is a list of what you can see and touch for a slightly discounted ticket.)The aquarium will be adding more activities in the coming weeks.Back at the park, you can see progress. Caution tape is draped around the park and the sounds of construction echo off the tall historic buildings."One of the little tiny silver linings in otherwise what is a dark cloud is a lot of work has been able to be done at Balboa Park," Comiskey said. He adds that the Timken Museum is getting a refresh and the Mingei International Museum is also transforming."There is so much happening inside the park that we just know when people can come back and safely visit they will have a wonderful experience," Comiskey said.He hopes everyone does their part to bring down coronavirus cases so they can reopen as soon as possible.Museums like the Museum of Us offer educational content and virtual tours online during this time to continue serving the community. 2151

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department is increasing staffing ahead of Santa Ana winds expected to swirl around the county to start the work week. On Sunday, 10News got a hands-on tour of Station 14 in North Park. It is one of five San Diego Fire stations with an engine, ladder truck, and now a fully staffed brush truck for the next two days. "Our brush rigs are always able to be covered," San Diego Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Kelly Zombro said. "We just have to un-staff a rig to move over to it. In this case, those rigs are actually covered right now, and they can all go."Because of the upcoming Santa Ana winds, the Department is staffing 25 additional crew members, specifically for wildfires. While engines and ladder trucks are most commonly used in day-to-day operations, the 0,000 brush truck is on a league of its own."It's imperative that we are able to make access quickly into areas where the engine cannot get into," Fire Engineer, Tim Swanson said. "And that's why we have these brush rigs."Unlike the concrete jungle in New York City, the City of San Diego has many different kinds of terrain. Because of that, in the academy, all firefighters are trained in all three truck types: engine, ladder, and brush. The brush truck has off-road tires, a 600-gallon tank, and specialized tools like backfire canisters, burn-over protection, and this triple hose backpack. The truck may even become a mobile home for the crew. That is why it has comfortable seats and carries household items. "If we're out on a strike team, we are gone for sometimes two weeks at a time with little to no ground support," Swanson said. "So, we need to be self-sufficient for two weeks."Even if fires do not erupt in our area, they are always ready to go."Sometimes, when [Northern California] is asking for help, we have to do it," Deputy Chief Zombro said. "And we just have to up our game down here to make sure we stay covered, and we've always done that."After two days, the department will re-assess to see if they need to continue the increased staffing. Relative humidity will also drop into the single digits in some areas Monday, the agency said. Tuesday is also expected to be the warmest day of the week with temperatures warming into the 90s in the inland valleys and 80s along the coast. As of Saturday morning, San Diego Gas and Electric says more than 1,000 people could be affected by planned outages as winds move through. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Threats from President Donald Trump to move forward with ICE raids aren't stopping a Barrio Logan organization from patrolling the streets and alerting the community when agents are in their neighborhoods. Union Del Barrio is a 38-year-old organization. In the last year, they started the community patrols to warn neighbors of their rights, if ICE shows up at their door. Benjamin Prado is a member of Union Del Barrio. He says volunteers patrol in Logan Heights, Barrio Logan, Shelltown, City Heights and Linda Vista. Prado says they never interfere with the ICE agents doing their job, only document what they see. The organization is also training volunteers in other cities, including Los Angeles. Prado says they feel ICE shouldn't exist at all and that these patrols are to challenge the administration, trying to stop them from terrorizing and separating their families with deportations. On Saturday, Trump said the administration would move forward with ICE raids "fairly soon". Late Sunday afternoon, the president also tweeted in response to a New York Times article saying in part "people should not be entering the country illegally" while also praising the work of Border Patrol and others in law enforcement. Trump also insisted the wall is being built. So far, no word from the administration as to when the deportations will start. 1378

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego region needs to develop new housing units at a pace not seen since before the housing bubble burst to meet the demand.A new report from the San Diego Association of Governments says the region needs to add about 171,000 new houses, condos and apartments by 2029, based on a state projection of population growth. That pace, of about 17,000 homes a year, hasn't been reached since 2003. And in 2017, the county only authorized 10,000 new units.HOUSING COVERAGE: 506

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This November, Californians will consider whether or not to repeal a recently enacted gasoline tax meant to drum up funds for road repairs around the state.Proposition 6 aims to repeal Senate Bill 1, which was enacted in 2017. The bill raised California's gas tax by 12.5 cents per gallon and increased diesel prices by 20 cents to fund road construction and infrastructure improvements across California. In this case, a "yes" vote means ditching the gas tax while a "no" vote means keeping the tax.Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin and political analyst Ruben Barrales sort through the pros and cons surrounding Prop 6.YOUR VOICE YOUR VOTE ELECTION COVERAGE 685
