LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A billboard calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case was vandalized with red paint in Louisville..The public discovered the vandalism to the sign near the city’s Irish Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning, WLKY and WAVE report. However, by Tuesday afternoon, both TV stations say the paint had either been removed from the billboard or it had been replaced. The billboard is one of several erected in the Kentucky city by Oprah Winfrey and her magazine, which featured Taylor on its September issue. She was the first person other than Oprah herself to grace the cover. The signs feature a photo of the 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed by police in her home in March. They also have a call to action – “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged” – and encourage people to visit the website for Until Freedom, a social justice organization created to address systemic and racial injustice.Taylor died on March 13 after three Louisville police officers executing a search warrant used a battering ram to enter her home. The emergency room technician and her boyfriend were in bed. After a brief exchange, Taylor’s boyfriend reportedly fired his gun and then police fired shots, striking Taylor at least eight times. She died in the apartment hallway.Since Taylor’s death, protests have been held across the country, demanding that the officers involved be charged in her killing. Many celebrities other than Oprah have also used their platforms to call for action. For now, the shooting is under investigation by the FBI and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Both are deciding whether criminal charges are warranted in the case. 1708

MARSHALL, Minn. — A couple in Minnesota wore red face masks emblazoned with swastikas to a Walmart in a video posted on social media.Police were called Saturday to the Walmart in Marshall, in the southwest part of the state, on a report that two shoppers were wearing the mask with the symbol used by the Nazi Party. The Star Tribune reports another shopper, who is a vicar of a southwest Minnesota parish, posted a video on Facebook of the man and woman being confronted by others in the store."If you vote for Biden you're gonna be in Nazi Germany. That's what it's going to be like," one of the masked shoppers said in the video, which was posted to Facebook.Marshall police gave the couple no-trespass notices but did not cite or arrest them.Walmart says the Arkansas-based retailer "will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment" in its business."What happened today at our store in Marshall, MN is unacceptable. We strive to provide a safe and comfortable shopping environment for all our customers and will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment in any aspect of our business," the store said in a statement to KARE-TV in Minneapolis. "We are asking everyone to wear face coverings when they enter our stores for their safety and the safety of others and it's unfortunate that some individuals have taken this pandemic as an opportunity to create a distressing situation for customers and associates in our store."USA Today reports that Walmart's no-trespass notices means the pair won't be able to step inside their stores for a year. 1577

MARATHON, Fla. -- Several dozen endangered sea turtles were flown from New England to Florida and are receiving treatment for something called “cold stunning.”The young sea turtles became stranded on beaches near Cape Cod, Massachusetts after overexposure to cold water. Being exposed to cold water for too long can result in a hypothermic reaction called “cold stunning,” and can cause turtles to stop eating and swimming. They were flown to the warmer climate of Florida over the Thanksgiving weekend and are being treated at various aquariums, turtle hospitals and facilities. Some of them may have to stay at the facilities for up to a year for testing and treatment.About 40 young Kemp Ridley sea turtles were taken to the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida. Another two dozen were taken to other marine centers, including the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. The rescue was made possible by a group of private pilots called “Turtles Fly Too,” who donated their planes, fuel and time to transport the animals. The turtles traveled in towel-lined banana boxes, according to local media. 1092

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Five-year-old NeeCee, a female snow leopard at the Louisville Zoo, has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans, the zoo announced in a release issued Friday. The Louisville Zoo is awaiting confirmatory results of the other two male snow leopards – Kimti and Meru. All three cats are doing well with very mild symptoms. The zoo said it continues to monitor their health closely and expects all three cats to recover. No other animals are showing symptoms at this time. The three snow leopards began exhibiting minor respiratory symptoms, including an occasional dry cough or wheeze, within the last two weeks. It is suspected that NeeCee acquired the infection from an asymptomatic staff member, despite precautions by the Zoo.“Fortunately, based on clinical cases in large cats at other zoos in the country to this point, SARS-CoV-2 infection does not appear to be life-threatening,” said Dr. Zoli Gyimesi, the zoo's senior staff veterinarian. “We will be closely monitoring the snow leopards for ongoing symptoms and resampling them to identify when they have cleared the infection.”In April 2020, four tigers and three lions were confirmed positive at the Bronx Zoo in New York. An additional three tigers at an AZA zoo in Tennessee were confirmed to be infected this fall. Just last week, the Barcelona Zoo announced four lions tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. In all cases, the animals recovered and are doing well. This story originally reported on LEX18.com. 1522
