WASHINGTON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and U.S. President George W. Bush met at the White House on Tuesday, agreeing to push forward with the constructive and cooperative relations between the two countries.     During the meeting, Yang hailed the great development that two countries have achieved in the past seven years in enhancing China-U.S. relations, which he said also contributed to the peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region and the world.     He noted that Chinese President Hu Jintao and President Bush have set the direction for the future development of bilateral relations during their meeting held at the sidelines of the Hokkaido G8 summit in Japan earlier this month.     China is willing to work with the United States to follow the direction and push forward with the constructive and cooperative relations between the two countries, Yang added.     For his part, Bush told the visiting Chinese top diplomat that he is glad to see China-U.S. relations developing on a favorable momentum that the United States is committing to maintaining, and he also appreciates a good working relationship built with Chinese President Hu Jintao.     On the coming Olympic games in Beijing, Yang expressed his welcome to Bush, who is set to attend the opening ceremony, and wished American athletes excellent performance in the competitions.     Bush said, in return, that he looks forward to visiting China to attend the Olympic games' opening ceremony.     On the issues of human rights and religion, Yang told the U.S. president that China would like to continue to exchange its views with the United States on basis of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's domestic affairs, as a way to promote mutual understanding.     He also noted at the meeting that the WTO's Doha Round trade negotiations are at a critical moment, and its success would help promote world economy growth, which is in the common interest of China, the United States and the international community.     China hopes that all sides can work together to push forward with the negotiations and achieve a comprehensive and balanced result, he added.     Yang also met with Stephen Hadley, assistant to the president for national security affairs.

TAIYUAN, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang underscored the scientific outlook on development and production safety during an inspection tour to northern Shanxi Province on Wednesday and Thursday.     Zhang visited the site of the Sept. 8 landslide in Xiangfen County on Thursday morning, where an unlicensed iron ore tailings pond burst and killed at least 262 people.     "The September 8 landslide was a very serious production safety incident, causing great losses, having a bad impact and leaving a deep lesson," he said.     The vice premier said a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident should be conducted and that those responsible for it should be punished seriously in accordance with law.     A lesson should be drawn from the incident and people should be put first, he stressed, adding that more efforts should be exerted to crack down on unlicensed production and corruption behind production safety incidents.     He also demanded local authorities have a scientific outlook on development.     Production safety should be strengthened through more investment, scientific and technological progress and better management, the vice premier said.

BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to work together with the United States to forge ahead bilateral relations of constructive cooperation along the right track and in a sustained, healthy and stable manner, President Hu Jintao said here on Sunday.During a meeting with his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush in the central government compound of Zhongnanhai, Hu said the Chinese side has always viewed and handled its relations with the United States from a long-term and strategic perspective.     Hu said China is willing to work with the U.S. side to promote dialogue and exchanges, enhance understanding and mutual trust, respect and care for each other's interest and concerns, and settle sensitive issues properly to ensure bilateral relations go along the right track and in a sustained, healthy and stable manner.Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) shakes hands with U.S. President George W. We will keep contact with the U.S. side and inform you of the new developments," said the Chinese president.    Bush thanked China for how it has handled the situation of Todd Bachman and his family, and also thanked Hu for his expression of sympathy.    Todd and Barbara Bachman of Lakeville, Minneapolis, were attacked by a man with a knife while touring the 13th-century Drum Tower of Beijing on Saturday. Todd Bachman died from knife wounds while his wife suffered multiple stab wounds and was in critical but stable condition after an eight-hour surgery.    Police said that the assailant, 47-year-old Tang Yongming from Hangzhou of east China's Zhejiang Province, later killed himself by jumping off a 130-foot high balcony on the Drum Tower.    During the Sunday meeting, the two presidents also exchanged views on other issues, including the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and the Iran nuclear issue.    They agreed that the two sides should maintain communication and coordination, and make joint efforts to facilitate the proper settlement of these issues.    Both leaders also made a positive evaluation of the progress achieved through the strategic and economic dialogue between the two countries, and agreed to work together to help the dialogue achieve more positive results.

SKOPJE, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang met here on Monday with Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski with both sides vowing to boost cooperation between the two countries.     "China attaches great importance to the bilateral relations with Macedonia, and regards Macedonia as a trust-worthy partner in the west Balkans," Zhang said.     Zhang pointed out that the bilateral relations between the two countries have made positive progress during the past 15 years, and that economic cooperation and exchanges in the fields such as culture, education and sports have witnessed new development.     Zhang said China is ready to broaden the areas of cooperation between China and Macedonia on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, and lift the bilateral relations to a new level.     He suggested the two countries should find new areas of cooperation, and push the companies of the two countries to develop cooperation in different forms and through various conduits.     Zhang expressed thanks and gratitude to Macedonia for its stance on one-China policy and its support for China's cause of peaceful unification with Taiwan.     Crvenkovski said Macedonian highly values its relations with China, saying that Macedonia will unswervingly stick to its one-China policy.     "We are ready to work with China to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of politics, trade and economy, and international affairs, pushing the bilateral relations forward," Crvenkovski said.     Crvenkovski congratulated China on staging a wonderful Olympic Games in Beijing, and thanked China for its long-time help and support for Macedonia.

BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese companies will no longer need the central bank's approval when issuing short-term bonds on the inter-bank market amidst government efforts to boost direct financing and reduce bank loan risks.     The People's Bank of China (PBOC) announced non-financial companies could issue bonds with maturities of less than one year on the inter-bank market without its approval from April 15.     Instead, they would only need to register at the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors set up in September, the PBOC said in a statement issued late on Saturday.     It said other negotiable notes "with a certain maturity" issued by non-financial companies on the inter-bank bond market wouldn't need administrative examination and approval, either. Nor would future innovative financing tools on the market.     China has vowed to develop its capital market and broaden direct financing channels to curb enterprises' heavy reliance on bank credit.     "China's financial structure has long been unbalanced, with its direct financing underdeveloped," said the statement. "Enterprises rely on bank loans too much, bringing them fairly large hidden risks."     To boost innovation in debt offering and raise the share of direct financing could mobilize the transfer of deposits to investment and decrease credit risks of the banking system, it said.     China allowed companies to offer short-term bonds to qualified institutional investors on the inter-bank market in May 2005.     From then to the end of 2007, 316 companies issued 769.3 billion yuan (about 109.9 billion U.S. dollars) of short-term bonds, with 320.3 billion yuan of outstanding debts, statistics showed.     In comparison, short-term loans to non-financial companies and other institutions surged 1.25 trillion yuan in 2007, while middle- and long-term loans jumped 1.65 trillion yuan.
