American tech companies rely on employment-based visas like the H-1B to hire international talent. Microsoft and Amazon file more H-1B applications on behalf of potential employees than any other U.S. tech companies. In 2017 and 2018, Amazon filed the most applications, followed by Microsoft, Intel, and Google in that order. That’s according to data compiled by the National Foundation for American Policy.

Amazon’s dizzying growth has helped fuel a real estate boom in Seattle, for office buildings and apartments. In the last year?Amazon has picked up?several office?buildings in Seattle, while also declaring its intentions to set up shop on the east side of Lake Washington with a?big new Bellevue office.?Those leases alone total more than 1.7 million square feet, about the same size as the company’s original headquarters footprint in South Lake Union.

At the end of 2016, Amazon began deploying delivery drones in the U.K. through its Amazon Prime Air initiative. As part of that program, Amazon has also leased a fleet of 40 branded airplanes. The company?bought thousands of truck trailers and even filed a patent for a system that would allow drones to hitch rides on trucks or buses.
