SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Uber finally got its food delivery company, acquiring Postmates in a .65 billion all-stock deal, the ride-hailing giant has confirmed. The deal helps Uber and its Ubereats food-delivery division pick up some ground against industry leader DoorDash, which controls about 37% of the U.S. food delivery market. That’s compared with Uber Eats’ 20% share before the Postmates deal. Grubhub holds around 30%.Last month, Uber lost out in a bid for Grubhub, which would have made it the dominant U.S. food-delivery service. But Amsterdam-based Just Eat Takeaway.com ended up nabbing Chicago-based Grubhub in a .3 billion deal.Uber writes in a press release that Postmates is highly complementary to Uber Eats, with differentiated geographic focus areas and customer demographics.Uber says consumers will benefit from expanded choice across a wider range of restaurants and other merchants, and delivery people will enjoy more opportunities to earn income, with increased batching of orders to make better use of their time.“Uber and Postmates have long shared a belief that platforms like ours can power much more than just food delivery—they can be a hugely important part of local commerce and communities, all the more important during crises like COVID-19. As more people and more restaurants have come to use our services, Q2 bookings on Uber Eats are up more than 100 percent year on year. We’re thrilled to welcome Postmates to the Uber family as we innovate together to deliver better experiences for consumers, delivery people, and merchants across the country,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.“Over the past eight years we have been focused on a single mission: enable anyone to have anything delivered to them on-demand. Joining forces with Uber will continue that mission as we continue to build Postmates while creating an even stronger platform that brings this mission to life for our customers. Uber and Postmates have been strong allies working together to advocate and create the best practices across our industry, especially for our couriers. Together we can ensure that as our industry continues to grow, it will do so for the benefit of everyone in the communities we serve,” said Postmates Co-Founder and CEO Bastian Lehmann. 2278

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who just gave birth to her second child, is attempting the rare move of changing longstanding Senate rules in order to accommodate senators with newborns. The Illinois Democrat has submitted a resolution this week that would allow senators to bring a child under one year old to the Senate floor during votes, which they currently cannot do."After many positive, constructive conversations with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle, Sen. Duckworth is glad to be able to offer this legislation to ensure no senator with an infant is prevented from performing their constitutional responsibilities -- and send a message that working parents everywhere deserve family-friendly workplace policies," said Kaitlin Fahey, Duckworth's chief of staff, in a statement provided to CNN on Monday. "She is optimistic that this will be resolved quickly."Duckworth gave birth to a baby girl on April 9 becoming the first US senator to do so while in office. The senator decided to take her maternity leave in Washington rather than in Illinois so as to be on hand and available to cast her vote, if needed.Leading up to giving birth, the senator openly expressed concerns how the Senate rules might impact her ability to do so while caring for her newborn."If I have to vote, and I'm breastfeeding my child, especially during my maternity leave period, what do I do? Leave her sitting outside?" Duckworth brought up in February during a Politico "Women Rule" podcast. There are a whole host of Senate rules that would make voting difficult for a senator while caring for her baby -- being unable to hand the baby off to a staffer, being unable to bring a child onto the floor and being unable to vote via proxy.Duckworth's resolution must first pass the Senate Rules Committee and then approved on the Senate floor to take effect. Rules Committee Chairman Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, and the panel's top Democrat, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, have both been receptive to the rules change.Blunt and Klobuchar released a joint statement Tuesday."As leaders of the Senate Rules Committee, we support Senator Duckworth's resolution and intend to move it swiftly through our committee," they stated. The committee might take up the rule change as early as this week, according to a congressional aide.Quick passage could allow Duckworth to be able to vote with her newborn on the floor as early as next week. A Duckworth aide to says they are cautiously optimistic that the Senate will move quickly. This story has been updated.The-CNN-Wire 2545

Staff members at JP Morgan Chase came back from the Labor Day weekend to an email allegeding some employees and customers of the large bank may have acted in ways “that does not live up to our business and ethical principles — and may even be illegal,” according to a company memo obtained by multiple media outlets. The bank’s operating committee, led by CEO Jamie Dimon, sent the email Tuesday morning. It talked about how the pandemic has brought out the best in many workers, however there have been instances where, the company believes, customers have abused the government’s coronavirus relief programs.“This includes instances of customers misusing Paycheck Protection Program loans, unemployment benefits and other government programs. Some employees have fallen short, too,” the memo reads, according to CNBC.JP Morgan Chase has issued nearly 300,000 loans, for a total of almost billion under the Paycheck Protection Program, according to ABC News.No further details about what kind of “misuse” or unethical behavior the bank is citing. They only said they are working to “identify those instances, and cooperate with law enforcement where appropriate.”Accusations of fraud or otherwise problematic loans have come up all summer. In June, when some of the businesses who received loans became public, some names raised some eyebrows, including Kanye West’s fashion brand. The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis announced that it has identified other possible fraudulent activity within the PPP program, including more than billion awarded to businesses that received multiple loans.Another billion was given to companies who reportedly didn’t include complete information from applicants. 1732

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Video captured Friday showed another bluff failure in the Solana Beach area, weeks after a series of small bluff collapses.Kelly Nelle captured a small bluff failure at a site that appeared taped off due to a previous bluff collapse. No one was injured.Several parts of Fletcher Cove were taped off in August as sandstone tumbled about 75 feet down to the beach. It isn't clear if Friday's collapse was at the same site, but the area was already taped off and appeared to have a pile of sediment at the base of the cliff side.In late August, Torrey Pines beach goers were warned of bluff collapses after a section fell to the ground. In early August, a massive section of rock fell in Encinitas, killing three people. As temperatures rise and bring more locals out to the coast, officials cautioned visitors to walk 25 - 40 feet away from all bluffs and not to walk around barricades because large rocks could still fall.Video from Friday showed some smaller rocks falling before the larger section fell onto the Solana Beach spot. 1068
