SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The views from atop of the old light house at Point Loma are off limits to virtually everyone most of the year except two particular twin sisters.Kim Falhlen and Karen Scanlon are volunteers at Cabrillo National Monument.The 67-year-old sisters are tasked with cleaning the rare glass lenses at the top of the lighthouse among other duties for the open tower days held only 3 days a year.“It’s almost in a constant need of repair,” said Kim Fahlen, “the tower wasn’t built for today’s activity.”The sisters grew up in Ohio and say they plan on helping at the tower as long as the park rangers at Cabrillo will let them.“We’re good for a while,” said Karen Scanlon, “we’ll keep doing this until they make us take a desk job.” 756

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people were injured following a pursuit in Otay Mesa Monday afternoon.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies pulled the truck over around 2 p.m. for an unspecified traffic infraction.The driver, later identified as Christian Eduardo Saldana Medina, 26, stopped and cooperated with deputies.While deputies were checking records, Medina sped away at a “high rate of speed.” Deputies chased Medina for less than two miles before the truck ran into a tractor trailer at the corner of Pacific Rim Court and Camino Maquiladora.All three people inside the truck at the time of the crash were taken to the hospital, one by helicopter.Medina was arrested for felony evading and felony evading with injuries. A passenger, Edgar Quintana Valenzuela, 38, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.  895

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The sailor hit by a spinning helicopter blade earlier this week at MCAS Camp Pendleton has died.MCAS Camp Pendleton said the sailor died Saturday morning from injuries sustained after the spinning tail rotor blade of a UH-01Y Venom Marine helicopter struck him.The helicopter was on deck at MCAS Camp Pendleton when the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.RELATED: Sailor critically injured by spinning helicopter blade at MCAS Camp PendletonThe sailor was brought to Scripps La Jolla Medical Facility with critical injuries after the incident.Officials are withholding the sailor's name pending family notification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This Labor Day, the Little Italy community will celebrate their annual Stickball Tournament, honoring the East Coast past time made popular in several neighborhoods.The sport draws on the area's heritage that began decades ago.Since the 1920s, Little Italy has served as a ethnic business and residential hub. But as the tuna industry declined, about 35% of Little Italy disappeared with it and because of the construction of Interstate 5.But today, locals are working to restore the area to its business and cultural roots. Part of that, is stickball. Little Italy's tournament comes around every Labor Day weekend, giving spectators and players the chance to relive some childhood memories.
