General Electric was blasted on Wednesday by workers, retirees and shareholders bemoaning the downfall of the company they love.At its annual meeting, GE got an earful from employees and investors who pleaded with management to right the ship after a disastrous year."I believe it was arrogance and a series of bad business decisions," former employee Bill Freeda said. GE's stock price has crashed by 50%, and calls to kick it out of the Dow have grown louder.Despite the deep criticism of past and current GE leaders, the company's nominees to the board were all elected on Wednesday. None of the shareholder proposals calling for reform were adopted, though one pushing for splitting the CEO and chairman roles received strong support.John Flannery, a veteran GE executive who replaced longtime chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt last year, said he remains "extremely proud" of the company despite its "immensely disappointing" results."We're keenly aware of the pain that our performance has caused," he said.Flannery urged investors and employees to keep the faith and said results from the start of 2018 offer hope."I want all of you to be proud of the company and not lose heart," he said. "I assure you we will not let up until this job is complete."Former GE workers slammed the company for eliminating their supplemental health insurance plans."We built the company. We put it where it is today," said Ron Flowers, president of the Retiree Association of General Electric."Don't just think financially," Flowers urged the board. "Think morally also."Other retirees lamented GE's billion pension deficit, the largest among S&P 500 companies. They questioned whether the pension fund, whittled by years of low rates and inattention, will be around to support them.Flannery said the pension fund is running a "significant deficit," but he said maintaining its integrity is "a deep priority for us." Heather Hyland, a self-proclaimed bug nerd, has found a love for mosquitos despite the diseases they carry.“I have loved bugs I would say since I was about 2 years old,” Hyland said.Initially a public information officer for the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District in Southern California, she said her bug fascination was because so many people don't like them. So, as a child, Hyland thought, someone should love them. That love turned into entomology.“They’re so interesting. They’re these intricate little tiny bugs with the capability to do big things. If you look at how prehistoric a mosquito is, it has six mouth parts. There’s so many different things they can do that are big,” Hyland said.Mosquitos can transmit disease, sense heat, even smell carbon dioxide coming out of human bodies. In Orange County, vector control employees normally see an average of 24 mosquitos in a trap. Now, they're seeing 118."We do look at the region - Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego - have already had positive West Nile mosquitos in their traps,” she said. “Our district lines are invisible. There’s no line (to) say ‘no mosquitos or birds with West Nile, don’t come this way.’”It's only a matter of time before those county and state lines are blurred. Mosquitos don't see barriers. Hillsborough County, Florida deputies arrested a Chase Bank call center employee for stealing account information, adding her boyfriend to the accounts and making withdrawals.31-year-old Dakima Williams and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Darius Lopez, are being charged with the crimes.“I went to pick up a prescription and when I went to pay for it with my HSA card it said I had a balance of like ,” Kari Krause, whose joint HSA account with her husband was compromised, said.Krause, who lives in Texas, says investigators told her the suspect had a duplicate debit card created to make the transactions. Lopez made two trips to a Chase Bank in Tampa to pull money from the account, withdrawing ,000 and the ,000.Chase reimbursed the couple and began investigating the incident. In total, deputies say nine accounts were compromised.“As soon as we discovered this, we notified authorities and worked with them on the investigation. The employee was terminated and we reimbursed affected customers. We also put additional safeguards in place to prevent this type of behavior by restricting access to certain account information and adding extra layers of verification,” Chase Spokesperson Michael Fusco said in an email.Chase also sold their Health Savings Account Business prior to the incident.
