CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- The City of Chula Vista is letting residents know that they can expect a little extra noise this Thursday.The extra noise is due to the San Diego Padres home opener on Thursday, March 29. (KGTV) -- Hope, peace, unity and love are some of the simple words painted on rocks that Maria Gutierrez walked by each morning."I was thankful and I would look for more and more stones," Maria said.Maria just moved to the neighborhood and was surprised to learn who was behind those painted messages."One day I was walking my dogs and I saw Ava carrying a couple of stones and just quietly putting one down," Maria described.Ava is her neighbor, an 8-year-old doing her part in lifting others in difficult times."I’s because a lot of people aren’t happy right now. My mom and I were trying to make the people in our neighborhood happy," said Ava.I asked Ava what works like hope meant for her and she replied, "if someone doesn’t think they can do something, there’s hope they’ll make it."Her mom Cyndi said others neighbors have joined in their "rocks of hope" movement."We noticed other stones placed around the tree. It was cool because other people starting doing it as well," Cyndi said.Maria moved to Eastlake last month and said Ava's efforts showed how helpful and hopeful her neighborhood could be."It made me smile and I didn't really know anybody here. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A nurse is calling her co-workers guardian angels after they saved her life.Early Borja is nurse a Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and had quite a medical episode over the summer.Borja was in the car with her husband in July when she suffered what she thought was an asthma attack. It became more serious when she lost consciousness. Her husband drove her to the emergency room at Sharp Chula Vista, where a team of nurses, respiratory therapists and Dr. Nyda Pamintuan saved her life. Borja was revived and a few days later she was discharged from the hospital.On Thursday, she met the team that helped bring her back and also presented the doctor who led the effort with the Guardian Angel award.“I’m back alive working because of you,” said Borja through tears as she thanked the team.Borja has worked at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for 27-years. 897

CHULA VISTA Calif. (KGTV) - Arson investigators are looking into a fire that damaged a Mexican restaurant in Chula Vista late Thursday evening.The fire at Tacos Y Mariscos Imperial, located on 2490 Main Street, was reported at around 10:15 p.m., according to fire officials at the scene.Firefighters said the blaze started outside and quickly spread to the front of the restaurant.No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 491

CINCINNATI -- Lockland (Ohio) firefighter Michael Allen said he could feel his heart beating in his chest when he heard a 10-month-old was trapped in an apartment fire.A mother had been cooking at her apartment on Sunday when a fire started in the kitchen. She was able to get three of her children outside, but the smoke was too thick for her to get to her baby. A police officer tried to rescue the child, but he too was swallowed in smoke.Allen was on his way to the fire when he learned the child was trapped on the second floor.“There was no thinking twice, there was no second guessing in what had to be done.  You just – you know everything comes to you, things (you've) probably not thought about in five years … everything comes back, and you jump in the action and you go,” Allen said.He said he could see the fire growing from the kitchen when he opened the door. He heard the baby crying as he put his oxygen mask on and made his way through the smoke to the second floor.“The baby stopped crying, so then immediately you’re thinking the worst is about to happen,” Allen said. “I made it into her bedroom. I found the crib relatively quick, was able to pick her up and when I did she did start to cry again, so I took my mask off, covered her face up and brought her outside to mom.”Allen has been a firefighter for more than 10 years. He said nothing tops the joy he felt when he handed the baby to her mother.“It’s an incredible feeling. It’s exactly why we do this job,” Allen said. “It doesn’t matter who you are. You become a fireman to help people and make their day better than what it was before you got there.”First responders gave the baby oxygen and transported her to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for observation, but she is expected to be OK.Allen said he knows things could have been much worse.“Had we been on a call, you gotta have units respond from other departments if you’re out, so knowing that everything just fell in place perfectly today and that little baby is going to make it … it’s a good feeling,” he said. 2097
