President Donald Trump said Friday that he canceled a US military parade planned for Veterans Day weekend, blaming Washington city officials for inflating costs amid reports that indicated the event's price tag had soared over initial estimates."The local politicians who run Washington, D.C. Portland remains in the number one spot for poor quality air Monday. The biggest city in Oregon and nearby Seattle are the top cities in the world for air pollution. Portland reached levels considered “off the chart” over the weekend.The Environmental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other national and local agencies partner together on reporting air quality using the official Air Quality Index.The index is color-coded and goes from 0 to 500. The higher the number, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concern. On the low end, 0-50 is considered “good” air quality, or green, and 301-500 is considered “hazardous” and is maroon colored.Air quality was measured at above 500 in and around Portland, Oregon on Sunday. While air conditions have improved, they are still listed as the worst air quality in the world, with Seattle as number 2, and San Francisco and Los Angeles in the top six. Areas in Central California are also reporting high air quality levels because of nearby wildfires.There are more than 100 wildfires burning in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and California. They have killed more than 30 people, and forced hundreds of thousands to evacuate with little notice.However, the smoke in the air is unavoidable for the millions living in these three states. (KGTV) - A Southern California officer was fatally shot and another officer hospitalized during a standoff with an armed suspect Friday.The officers, whose identities have not been released, were reportedly responding to a barricaded suspect at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Palomares Street, according to ABC-affiliate KABC."It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive," Police Chief Michael Olivieri said on Twitter. "The second officer is in stable condition."The officer's body will be escorted to the Los Angeles Coroner's Officer Saturday by officers from Pomona, San Gabriel Valley and the Inland Empire.The shooting was reported at about 9 p.m. Friday, though the standoff was ongoing as of 5 a.m. Saturday. 788

President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that American prisoner Josh Holt has been released from prison in Venezuela."Good news about the release of the American hostage from Venezuela," Trump tweeted. "Should be landing in D.C. this evening and be in the White House, with his family, at about 7:00 P.M. The great people of Utah will be very happy!"Holt, 26, a Utah native, is a Mormon missionary who traveled to Venezuela in June 2016 to marry Venezuelan Thamara Cale?o, a fellow Mormon, according to news reports. He was arrested shortly afterward and accused by the Venezuelan government of stockpiling weapons and attempting to destabilize the government, according to The Washington Post. Holt was held for nearly two years without standing trial.Holt's release comes more than a week after he posted videos to Facebook during a prison riot, pleading for help from Americans and the US government. In one video he said, "I've been begging my government for two years. They say they're doing things, but I'm still here."Holt and his wife were freed overnight and released to the US Embassy in Caracas, according to Foro Penal, a human rights organization of lawyers and others who assist political prisoners in Venezuela.
