NEW YORK, N.Y. – In a skyscraper, nearly 50 floors above a New York City, a group of women are gathering to ask for more. “We’ve barely budged in two decades,” said Kim Churches, CEO of the American Association of University Women. What’s barely budged are women’s salaries, still lagging far behind what men make in America. That’s where the “Ask For More” workshop campaign is stepping in. The American Association of University Women, along with numerous other groups, are holding free workshops across the country to teach women how to successfully negotiate a higher salary. The goal: to train 10 million women in the next three years. “Women make up half the labor force, yet it is still is a man’s world in how workplace hiring and promotions take place,” Churches said. “And it’s on us to really change them.” The numbers are sobering. For every dollar a man makes, women make an average of 79 cents on the dollar. It’s even worse for minority women: African-American women make 62 cents on the dollar; Hispanic women make 54 cents. “I found myself needing to ask for more money than I think I was getting,” said Samantha Hamidan, who is an immigration lawyer. Hamidan came to one of the workshops in New York City, after recently trying to ask for a raise. “I’m hoping to really be able to parlay these skills into asking for more money at the next position,” she said. Renowned fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff founded the “ 1447

CHICAGO – This past May, Harrisburg University won ESPN’s inaugural College Esports Championship. In 2018, the college became the first to award full-ride scholarships to its entire 16-player roster. With gaming programs expanding and an estimated million in esport scholarships up for grabs, elite players are finding themselves in high demand. Just ask 16-year-old Elgin, Illinois high school junior Jonathan Huffman. He’s been playing online since he was 13 and regularly spends hours at his bedroom gaming station. When asked how good a player he really is, Huffman wryly responds. “Very good. I don’t really say it too much but I’m one of the best in the world I would think,” he said. In fact, Huffman is so good he needs a live camera trained on his hands during gameplay streaming to prove to others he’s not hacking the system. “Whenever people accuse me, they just look at the hand-cam and it kind of fixes the issue,” he said. Huffman’s game of choice is Overwatch. Online he’s known as “MyCrazyCatOW.”He regularly ranks among the top 50 competitive players in the world. As a result, colleges and universities are clamoring to recruit players like him. “To give an analogy – like in professional basketball he’s up there in the echelons of the Steph Currys, the Lebron Jameses of the world,” explained Alan Gadbois. Gadbois is a recruiter for Next College Student Athlete the official recruiting partner of the 1443

Stress and pressure can lead to overeating, but nutritionists say a healthy diet is a better choice for managing what life throws at you. We looked into how nutrition can play a role in helping you rebound from these tough times. “At your physical healthiest that’s going to be the condition that supports your best mental wellness as well,” said University of Arizona Assistant Professor of Nutritional Sciences Ann Skulas-Ray.Skulas-Ray says in times like these, you want to give your yourself what you need. A poor diet is more like giving yourself the flu.“Think about when you are sick, so you have all this inflammation in your body. Have you ever tried to do your best work under those conditions when your whole body is inflamed? It doesn’t work,” Skulas-Ray said. She says the first step is to cut down on the junk. Highly processed foods, refined sugars and corn syrup feel good in the moment, but are not a recipe for long-term happiness.Skulas-Ray says there are a million diets out there, but she says most people can benefit from keeping it simple. Eat more fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and fatty fish.“Omega-3s are a good one, because the brain is actually made out of omega-3s," she said. "They are directly responsible for regulating inflammation in the body.”You also don't have to make drastic life changes overnight. Minor changes over time can go a long way.“Nobody eats a perfect diet, it's just about small changes you make over time,” she said. “And you should feel good about each incremental improvement.” This article was written by Brian Brennan for KGUN. 1616

“Is this an advertisement for why women should get tummy tucks?”? ? “Why aren’t there any fit women in this photo? Not every postpartum body is fat and loose.”? ? “Why has society made it ok to bash women who bounce back yet glorify women who can’t lose weight?”? ? “How about dieting?”? ? “Posts like this bother me. Not losing the weight is a choice.”? ? “I’m a mother of 4 but I’m also a smokin’ hot wife because that’s my duty. No way I’d be happy or settle to look like this.”? ? “Photos like this tear women apart.”? ? “So, you’re saying that skinny women don’t have real bodies?”? ? Just a small sample of the comments we’ve received over the past few days since our original post went live. It’s a shame that the point has been completely missed by some of the people that have taken time out of their day to comment. (The point being: the four of us have been friends online for a long time and finally met IRL and took a last minute photo together...of our different postpartum body types...to show that all body types are beautiful.)? ? If you look at this photo and your first thought is “why are there no skinny women”, you have bigger issues to deal with, my friend. You can look literally anywhere: film, TV, Instagram, magazines, video games and see skinny women. Other body types are absolutely underrepresented in media and it causes women with those body types to feel less than... to feel like they’re not good enough.? ? I want to encourage anyone who felt the need to leave any of the above comments to dig deeper, self-reflect, gain some perspective, learn. Your comment says WAY fucking more about you than it does about us.? ? Be better. 1678
